Most denominations and that because Jesus honored it as the Word of God. And, yes, it does say an eye for an eye. Not because that was good but because it was an improvement. People were taking more than an eye for an eye. No surprise there. :)

Denominations or cults that actively follow OT law are still around; without exception, ALL misunderstand the relationship between the OT laws, the NT laws and Jesus' role regarding the fulfillment of OT law.

1) Seventh Day Adventists practice a revised form of part of the Mosaic law: they worship on the Sabbath and only eat certain foods.

2) Many conservative Christian denominations (such as Southern Baptists) advocate titheing, which is an OT commandment and is NOT found in the NT.

3) Jehovah's Witnesses abstain from blood and blood products, an OT commandment, because of a misunderstanding of NT teachings. Conveniently, they do not require meat to be bled out before they'll eat it; many won't hesitate to eat a steak rare.

4) As Messianic Judaism becomes more popular, there are more and more Messianic congregations that require congregants to be "Torah observant," i.e. to adhere to portions of the Mosaic Covenant, such as the Levitical dietary laws. Requiring Torah observance is unscriptural and represents a gross misunderstanding of Jesus' mission to fulfill the law.
