Secondhand car dealers use a book called Glass's Guide. It's an average of secondhand car prices reached at auctions.

You'll not find it easy to get a copy, but there are other guides for sale in shops like WH Smith which will be good enough for most purposes.

I see some people have mentioned something called Kelly's. This is probably an American thing and quite irrelevant to a question posted on the UK&I site.

Parkers Car Valuation

In the UK there are two books - the CAP "black book" and "Glass's Guide", both of which are available only to the motor trade.

However, Glass's do provide information to a number of websites (e.g. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/front_website/thirdparty.php?c=1 ) for a fee.
You can also get valuations from a couple of other websites, such as What Car? (http://www.whatcar.com/valuations.aspx ) and Parker's (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/prices/ ).

Dealers normally check the price in both guides, and quote you whichever puts them in the best position (the lowest if they are buying, and the highest if they are selling).

No it is available online, just put in the make, model, trim spec and year of you car and see what the average price they are being sold for is. I just did it for my two year old Jeep (bought new) and now feel suicidal at the depreciation that has made it worthless, I think I'll be looking at a Volkswagen Fox next time lol.

The 3 'books' used are:

Parkers Guide
CAP Green Book
Glass's Guide

The only free service is Parkers.

take a look at Parkers.co.uk. Most car prices are there including variation for the condition and a dealer price

Buy a copy of Parker's guide. They are sold in large supermarkets like Sainsburys.
