They first go int heat when they are 6 months of age. Could be a little sooner or a little later. They go into heat twice a year.
ADD: The heat cycle lasts about 3 weeks. Please have her spayed. Her risk of cancer will decrease if you have her spayed.

The average heat cycle for a dog is approximately 3 weeks and since this an an average, some heats are shorter (as little as 7-10 days), others are longer (4 weeks or more).
Average times between heat periods is seven months but some dogs can cycle as early as every 4 months, some once a year.
And as young as 5 months old when they can begin.

I have just found out this age ole question VIA the internet. I have a 3 year old Stafforshire who is a rescue and was Spayed. The vet that spayed here did not remove everything so she goes into false heat. After reading several articles on Bitches in heat, I found something remarkable. Dogs usually go into their first heat around age 6 months. The heat cycle can last as short as 10 days and as long as two months. The time between heat cycles range from 2 months to 6 months. I had to find out because our male dog was going crazy and we did not know why. Hope this helps.

I guess you refer to a Pomeranian. LOL
Usually bltches come into season, first time around, any time from 9 months upwards. My experience is usually 14 months and even later. Once they have had their first season, it is more regular, but the normal time is every 6 months.
The first week the female usually starts to bleed and if you keep an eye on the vulva you will see this expand and swell up. You know when she is ready to mate, as she will clearly ask for boys, by putting her bottom in ways, which is X-Rated! If you do not wish to mate her, make sure she stays clear from any boys. Mating time usually starts when the bleeding stops and in my experience can be from day 10 to 18.
The bleeding is not a big deal, the female usually cleans it herself, but if you have light carpets, you can purchase a bltch's ST panty! Make sure to fit the towel inside. LOL A young dog is usually pretty clueless, but the natural instincts kick in after the first season.
This entire episode lasts exactly 21 days. If your female is a regular girl. When breeding, make sure you get a male that is smaller than the female, so the pups don't grow too large and feed her with extra nutrition.

they usually go into heat after about a year old and then it's once every six months. even if they just had a litter of pups. my mom's dogs is only 3 yrs old and has had 4 litters of pups! her oldest baby is like 2 yrs old and on her second litter! but it's the same no matter what type of dog it is.

do you mean a POMERANIAN? most dogs are between 6-8 months of age when they go into heat, but if you spay her you wont have to worry about it. better to spay before their first heat anyway.
add- if you are talking about a papillon/ pomeranian cross, you should have her spayed right away so you do not run the risk of her getting pregnant and producing more mutts. please tell me you did not buy this dog from a breeder.

Is a paperanian one of those designer dogs? I wish I could breed my 2 mixed females and make a fortune. I have a Beaman (beagle/doberman mix) and a Jackfeist (jack russell/feist mix).
Oh, wait a minute, I can't breed them, since I did the responsible thing and had them both spayed.
