Some beverages are allowed at the funeral, or visitation.
others are consumed at the gathering afterward.

Tell me what you want people to drink at each event.

What will they be drinkin at your funeral?

What a good question. Originally the food and drink after a funeral was to look after the people who had taken the time and trouble to attend the funeral and had travelled a long way. This was especially so before trains and buses and roads not tarmacked. Personally I am not keen on these events, I usually stay for one drink and then make my excuses and leave. However I do understand that sometimes the 'nearest and dearest' do find it helpful to get through what is an especially traumatic day.

Depends on the family really...many people don't drink at the funeral or visitation, but rather they go out after the festivities are complete.

So I'm planning what I want people to drink for my post-funeral bash?!

That's tough...there could be a whole new kind of drink that hasn't been invented yet...and I don't want to try and tell people what to drink. If someone doesn't drink beer, I don't want to say beer as a blanket answer.

Let's just say I'd have an open bar...

If my friends and family know me well enough, they'll be drinkin' before during, and after!
I'd tell them to drink whatever they wanted, but to make sure to "have one for me."
We did pretty much this very thing for a friend who passed this summer. Had a group dinner/party to drink, play cards, and tell stories the night before visitation, had coolers full of beer in the trunk at the funeral home and took frequent trips outside "to have a drink with" him, had more beer at the gravesite, and stopped off at a few bars after the internment.
Sent him off with a hoopla!

Nothing but the ridiculous stuff. A few bottles of Johnnie Walker Blue, Gold and Green. Some Jack single barrel. A few bottles of expensive Port. Etc... Add a few fine tobacco products of your choice, and some terrific food. I can't take it with me, but they should definitely have the last of it on me. When I do go, everyone should know "This 'Rounds' on me."
You should come!!

at most funeral homes - no food or drink is allowed in the viewing room
The food/drinks takes place at the wake after the service

I could care less what son decides to serve/do ... I'll be dead and unable to enjoy any of it

I reallly don't care. I'm not going to be there to enjoy it. Unless... I just might come back & haunt the hypocrits w/the crocodile tears & then I'll just pour whatever they are drinking on them. hehehe I'm so bad.
