Nah, it just means dumb or stupid person. It isn't nice to call someone that, but its not a bad word.

putz? its not a good word. Its certainly not a word typically used ...like 20 years ago you might call someone a PUTZ...now you would just call them a Loser.

That's basically the eqivalent.

My Jewish friends use it to describe someone who acts "dumb". The kid who never gets a joke is called a putz. Might be used as a vulgar word too, but my friends are quite refined.

not that I know of ... I have 4 and 5 year old boys, both are in school and they come up with some doozies, like Farthead! Now ask yourself, is that a bad word...no, its not profanity (it just rude, LOL), but we tell them its a bad word because we don't want them saying that to their teachers when they get peeved.

I have heard that it may refer to the a yiddish word that refers to genitalia. I'll post a link where you can read an intelligent-sounding bit about it.

I would say yes. By definition its a negative word, used to put someone down. Which if you think of it like that, it's an insult, or word used to lessen someone elses esteem.
