Took Cipro in college went into horrible hives - parents have always told me that is what happened to me when I was a child with penicillin. Pharmacist told me to rub the sulfa one on my hand first to see if I would have a reaction before taking the pill and I did. Now I'm on Macrodatin - so far, so good. Except I'm very sleepy.I'm wondering if there's anything else I should stay away from or why I would have a reaction to such a wide base. I have no allergies to food or anything.. Thankfully, I hardly get infections..I have taken zithromax and clyndamyacin in the past (for dentist).

I am exactly the same. The only anti-biotic i can take is called kaflex. It sucks. But if Macrodatin is making you tired, maybe ask your doctor about kaflex?
hope that helped!

You're incredibly unlucky in terms of allergies.
You had a penicillin reaction when you were young. There are different schools of thought about giving a drug which you had an allergic reaction to years ago. Some say in extreme circumstances, it is worth a try. Others say no, don't do that. You'll have to careful about other penicillins. There is some cross-reactivity between penicillin and carbapenems and cephalosporins.
Ciprofloxacin is a fluroquinolone. Others in that class are levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, and gatifloxacin.
Vancomycin is a drug within its own class. It is a last line antibiotic.
Sulfa is not that commonly used anymore. You should be careful about Bactrim.
Zithromax is a macrolide and Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic.
You are allergic to two major classes of antibiotics. You should hope to never have a major injection. There aren't too many new antibiotics in development.

Yes! I can understand what you're saying exactly.

I was never allergic to anything as a kid, and now, I am in very reasonably good health, but seem to react to everything.

And I hate it. I drives me nuts.

I had a very bad reaction to sulfa. My whole body turned green! And my breath was terrible...

Much later I also became very allergic to aspirin, even though I had no allergy to aspirin at the time. Broke out in hives and couldn't breath, which is connected to a kind of shock.

The only thing I know is that allergies can be connected with COPD, Cronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, and that seems to be very hard to diagnose.

With me, one doctor says I have it, and another says that's totally impossible.

I don't breath well on almost any medicines, So, I think I'm gonna listen to the one who says I've got it.

Better safe than sorry, right?
