Infantry is the basic combat soldier skill (11 series), Scouts (reconaisance, 19 series) are a different skill, but basically an infantry soldier who uses special equipment to track the enemy and accurately report it to his commander. It requires more training and a higher level of intelligence, plus the ability to communicate accurate information quickly. They act as the eyes and ears of the commander on the battlefield. Some infantry soldiers can do the job well enough, but it is a specific job and has different equipment needs.

They are basically the same except that a Marine focuses on amphibious assaults. Army Infantry is more general purpose. The Marines job is to assault the beach, and then the Army takes over as they did in WWII. The Marines assaulted the beach, took over an area, then the Army came in and cleared the rest of the island while the Marines got ready for the next beach landing. The Marines are intended for a quick action, first in, then pull out to prepare for the next assault. The Army is made for long-term fights. In the War on Terror, Marines are doing the same thing as Army Infantry because forced entry is not needed as much. Think of a Marine as something like an Airborne Infantryman, or a Mountain Infantryman, or a Air Assault Infantryman. They are an Infantryman that has a specialty. In this case, attack a beach.

A recon soldier (whether Army or Marine) is just that a Recon Soldier. His task is to recon and gather information and NOT engage the enemy unless he absolutely has to (life threatening), where engaement is the job of the regular infantryman.

Well just listen to the question. A recon soldier goes out and recons sites or roads or objectives. Regular infantry is more of a shot and manuever element.

recon is short for reconnaissance,he the one who obtains info about the enemy.and reports all other actives in the field.A regular infantryman is just that,a person with only the training need to get the job dunn.any other special thing a soldier does i.e. moter, machine gun, medic. all of those titles add to the soldiers standing.

In addition to what John S said, recon or scouts are also better trained in artillery and close air support direction then regular infantry is. They hide, report, and when they have eyes on something, either they or an artillery observer calls in fire support on the target. Scouts do not fire unless they have no choice.
