My AVG icon in the bottom of the screen has gone grey and saying I need to pay urgent attention to it, so I clicked launch avg and it came up and says that I need to update my update manager?! can anyone tell me how to do it?
if that makes any sense. I clicked update but it just comes up with all my files and I dont know what to choose or click to make it work all fine again.

Yes i click the update thing and it comes up with a 'browse for folder' window? Which folder do I choose?

Right click the grayed out icon and then click "Check for updates". (You must be online to do this). AVG should then look for, download, and install any and all needed updates.

Go to start - programs - AV anti-virus and opn the program.
Check settings or update and start an update from the main window. make sure your internet connection is open and if you have a firewall temporarily disable it; also disable any other anti-virus program you have running.
Is it an direct internet connection or through a proxy? This will make a difference.
AV can be difficult at times and does funny things. You may have to re-install AV in which case you mght consider a different vendor say Avast or Avir.
