No more than Tolkien was criticizing Christianity in "Lord of the Rings." It is a work of fiction, set in a fantasy world that has embodiments of good and evil. Whatever parallels exist beyond that are largely in the mind of the viewer.

And to Oregon Flower : people are staying away in droves because it's not in theaters yet - the movie doesn't open until December 7. If it's receipts ranked higher than last place on the list, then somebody'd have some 'splainin to do.

personally I think one would have to read the books or watch the movie before they came to such an assumption. everyone has different ideals and opinions. Yes the Internet and other sources say that it was written by an atheist to criticize Christianity. But have you talked to the writer? Why would a person who doesn't believe in a God criticize God. Perhaps the senile God they are referring to in the movie is nothing more then a King, ruler type figure.... Like I said, I will Waite to watch the movie and judge for myself. I cannot speak for all atheists but I have known a few who have no reason or desire to criticize our belief in God just because they choose not to believe. For an atheist to criticize God wouldn't they have to believe there was one?

DRINK!!!!

hey there!!

I heard it was a watered down version of the first book...i don't think it was made criticize christianity, but the books may have been, which is one reason why i'll be buying them for my kids for christmas....another is that they've won lots of awards, and it really sounds like a good story line.

I think it's a movie made to try and get across the point that those who are in power will do ANYTHING to stay in power....no matter who they have to step on, who they have to kill, etc. They will do whatever they have to do to keep a secret hidden...and to keep themselves in power.

This doesn't only apply to organized religion, but it can also apply to any othe organized entity, such as government.

After reading the books, you should take a look at the people you give your power to, and ask if they are really the best people to represent your beliefs.

I don't know, I haven't seen it yet. And I haven't read the books either, so I can't reply either way. I just had to reply to the question cause I saw a drink!

Um, Oregon Flower... I just went to the website... It doesn't even come out till Dec 7th. So which "Receipts" are you even talking about?

It really doesn't matter what it is, it's a dismal box office flop. Check the receipts. It came in on the bottom the week it started.

It's actually anti-Chronicles of Narnia, which was a HUGE success among the nation's youth as well as adults. (And STILL is)

So it's flop just shows how people are staying away in droves. ;-)

Is there any institution in the history of the world that deserves to be criticized more?

*drink!*

And no, of course it isn't. It's a movie made to make money off of a very good book. Hopefully the movie will be good too!

Yes, the books are written by a very determined atheist who wants to undermine religion. I hear that the movie is a watered-down version, but still promotes the same motive.
