You could go out of the area to see a psychiatrist that wouldn't know you personally if that is necessary. They can only look at your past medical records if you sign a release. But consider this, if you don't share anything with them, how do you expect for them to work with you to help you in dealing with your issues and finding the right medication for you?

You will be able to, I always do it. I make an appointment with a different psychiatrist (if you need a referral ask your general practitioner) When he asked about my records I tell him I do not want him to have my records from what another doctor's opinion was I wanted his opinion. I did not even tell him who my other doctor was. I have been to many psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists and have NEVER given them my records from a previous doctor. I tell them all I want their opinion not my previous doctors opinions. If the new doctor will not see you without your records make an appointment with someone else. A doctor of any kind should not depend on what another doctor found and you can tell him so.

If you have been on medication, your new doctor would want to know that so as not to go through trials of something that did not work or that you had adverse reactions to.

1. Get the yellow pages and pick a doctor you don't know
2. Don't provide them with your history - say you've never seen a shrink before
3. Pay with cash (instead of using insurance).

I think seeing a private one would be the only way.

If you see a mental health worker with deception on your mind, it will work against your therapy.
