First you will be hassled and then taken to court. It's a lot cheaper and much better for your credit rating to pay it in the first place.
If you're temporarily short of money call the tax collector and try to work out a payment schedule.

One thing at a time. We don't know where you are from and need a bit more info. Here are some scenarios: 1. In the US anyone can pay your property taxes, regardless of who owns the property. I routinely pay taxes on properties that we acquire before the records are updated to show the current owner. 2. If there is a mortgage on the property then your problem with insurance can be two fold. I assume that they won't mind if you pay the insurance. But with a mortgage on the property you are required to maintain an insurance policy. You will find that as a clause in your security deed. The lender can move to accelerate the note thereby calling it due. Unlikely that they will find out, but possible. 3. Why would you have legal rights to the home if you pay insurance and taxes? I wouldn't count on it. You might be able to claim an interest over time, but it isn't as easy as you might think. Best of luck

after the first or second year, it will be offered by the County for Sale, with a Tax Deed offered; however, the original owner can reclaim the property within three years (each State is different) by paying all the delinquent taxes, penalty and interest. The person purchasing the property by tax deed would then get their money back.
