I seriously don't even know what to get my child for Christmas. He has named off a couple of small things but I wanted to get him something big from "Santa Claus". He is so fascinated with those little play kitchen sets, you know the one for little girls. I found one at Wal-Mart but I am so unsure whether or not I should get it. Does it seem right for little boys to play with kitchen stuff and tea sets? That is what I was needing the opinion about. There is one over at his Grandmas house, it is very old and it belonged to both of my older neices. I dont see anything wrong with him playing with one. What do yall think? What it be GAY to buy a little boy a kitchen set if he likes to play with one?

Funny you bring this up! Because I am getting the same thing for my three year old nephew. He LOVES to help me cook in the kitchen!!! He likes to stir, mix stuff in, throw away the egg shells and stuff like that. He's always begging to cook with me so I figured I'd get him a little kitchen play set. It's not "gay" at all, he just likes cooking! I mean look at Emeril Lagasse he's a very famous chef that's a boy and he's obviously not gay (at least I don't think so!) So I say go ahead and buy him that kitchen set =)

You are not going to turn your son gay by buying him a kitchen set. Who knows - he could turn out to be a great chef someday! If you're unwilling to invest in a new set for him, why not borrow the set from Grandma's house for a little while (since it sounds like no other child is using it right now) and see how much he actually plays with it. If he really likes it, buy him a set. It won't hurt him.

My little boy is 2 1/2 and has been playing with a kitchen set for quite some time. He loves to "cook." I think if your child shows an interest in it, then you will be encouraging his creativity and who knows, maybe he will be a chef one day.

i think its fine.. i bought one for my 1 year old daughter last year adn my 2 yrs old son plays with it all the time :)

the only thing i would suggest is that if it is the one from walmart for about $40 -- there are TONS of little pieces and honestly its not the best quality... i bought her that one but i wanted it set up so the day before xmas eve i opened the box and im glad i did.. it was really crappy looking so i ran to sears and bought the better one.... there was a nice one at zellers too.... a little more money.... zellers was $90 and sears was $150 but lots less work and better quality :) just a heads up

but no ... boys need to learn how to play in kitchens too... all my daycare kids love it... boys and girls :)'

When did kitchens and cooking become something only for girls? How many male chefs are out there?
All this gender generalization, boys have barely anything to play with anymore because it will make them "gay".
Seriously, get it for him. He will probably have a blast and it is great for his imagination!
My 3 year old son loves playing in his little kitchen, he thinks its great.
Don't worry so much about what is acceptable for his gender to play with and let him play with what he likes.

There is nothing wrong with that at all. It's healthy for him, I think. Little boys should be allowed to play with kitchen sets and baby dolls just like little girls should be allowed to play with cars and army toys. In today's world, different professions are not limited to just female and male categories. You never know, you may have a little chef on your hands! Nothing wrong with a man who can cook!!

It has always been it seems that certain things are for boys and girls. But, it is not going to make the boy act funny or weird if he decides to roleplay house and being a daddy taking care of babies. I work in a preschool and the boys are all the time playing with the dolls and kitchen area. It enables them to act out how things are they see at home such as cooking, cleaning, caring for childre etc. It also rounds out them as a person too. The girls are found to be playing as much with the blocks and cars and tracks as the boys do. It is okay for boys and girls to play with the non-traditional version of toys. It does not mean they will be growing into weird adults.

My nephew has a play kitchen and he loves it. It is a great way to encourage imaginary play. They have one that is a kitchen on one side and the other side (which is supposed to be like being outside) has a grill.

At that age he doesn't recognize things as "boy toys" or "girl toys". He just knows what is fun and what he likes.

I have a three year old son who plays with one almost everyday. I know it is stereotypical to think boys playing with girls toys are a sissy, but I think that it is just that a stereotype. My son is still all boy. He's a ninja turtle one minute and the next he's baking me a cake. This allows him to role play, imagine and just have a great time. If he enjoys it let him have something he will enjoy. Better to buy him something you know he will use rather than getting him something that will just collect dust. Good luck. Hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas!!

My son loves playing with Kitchen sets, he is 2 and everytime we go to pick up a "special toy" he picks out something that will go with his kitchen. I think it is great to get him one, he may also enjoy cooking with you so you could get him a few small real cooking items like an apron and stuff so he can help in the kitchen.
