I was born a bit premature but did not like baby food so at 4 months old my mom was giving me table food. It did no harm whatsoever.

Sure ya can! Of course providing you aren't giving him anything too spicy, or anything w/ alcohol....but a tastes is fine...and it is fun to watch (and record) the looks they make too.
As for being worried about food allergies, I have issues w/ having a kid that young tested for food allergies...I understand that they have a valid point...but generally speaking...if neither parent has allergies, then it's pretty safe to let the kids 'taste'....so long as should (heaven forbid) there is a problem, you have a Dr, and or/ an emergency room you can go to.
All I know is that most parents have no problems, and most allergies don't show til later.
Good Luck!

We started to let our daughter eat our food right around 5 months old. One night she kept crying and crying at the dinner table. I had given her mashed up brocoli and noodles from my plate but she wouldn't stop. I finally gave her a chunk of chicken to see if that was it, and she stopped crying and gobbled it up.
I think as long as they aren't spicy, made with nuts, milk or honey your son will be just fine. Just don't overdo it with too many new foods in one week. I always cook extra chicken when I make it so she can have it if we eat something that she isn't supposed to have yet.

You may want to make sure he doesn't have any food allergies before you do that. I read that babies at a certain age shouldn't be exposed to honey and peanuts, because they may cause allergies. I think your pediatrician can screen him for allergies. I used to have a lot of allergies to some fruits like avocado and melons, chicken, and some nuts like walnuts, pecans and brazil nuts. They have all gone away since I've grown older. Some people I know are so allergic that if they just touch it, they can get a reaction.

By allowing your son to taste foods now, later on you will have less trouble getting him to eat. Good for you. Too many just feed the baby what they know they will eat, generally sweet foods are favored by babies. Broccoli and cauliflower are new tastes but open the pallet to new foods well.

Yes! the more experiences the better, but at that age, even tiny tastes of things like alcohol and coffee could be dangerous.

omg yes! i am a mother of a 13 month old and as long as you stay away from the BIG 3... peanut products, honey and chocolate everything will be fine. my baby was eating "people food " by 5 months, and she has a terrific palet. she eats pickles, mustard and stinky cheese... lots of stuff kids do not normally like.

I say it's OK as long as you watch him. We gave our granddaughter "people" food around that age. Her parents were amazed, they still had her on baby food and formula. Turns out she liked garlic mashed potatoes, gravy, and sucking on turkey meat. Her brother is now at that age, and he likes little bits of gravy and pistachio pie. Pretty much anything we can dip our finger into and let them suck on. They love it, and our kids love it, since they didn't think they were ready yet. Gotta love being the grandparents.
