The 'fruit' in the context of Yahoo! Answers is the questions and answers that people here contribute. Can you tell a poor or bigoted answer from a balanced and well-argued one? Can you tell a loaded question from one which genuinely seeks knowledge?

Telling good fruit from bad is a matter of wisdom and experience. Not everyone knows how to tell a ripe melon or avocado from an unripe one and not every red tomato or shiny apple has a good flavor and texture. One has to taste them before knowing. A durian smells foul but is good to eat and a medlar is not edible until it is brown and rotten.

It's the same with judging the fruit of a man's labor. The shortest question may often be the best if it makes people expand their minds. An apparently unkind and off-hand comment may be the one that kicks a person into a better way of thinking.

It's not a matter of identifying the rotten fruit so much as seeing the good in people. Go figure.

It means you can judge (not in a condemning sense, but in a personal evaluation) a person by their works/actions. If someone claims to be a Christian but obviously doesn't act like one... their are producing worthless fruit. The same is true of someone who doesn't claim to be anything but does good, they produce fine fruit.

i think we would all like to think that we have the ability to recognize "rotten fruit" in others.....but i would guess that we are really unable to do so since so many obviously evil people have walked around with family, friends, co-workers, etc. that found them to be good people, and later turned out to be criminals.....only God knows our true heart....i once heard a phrase that fits here...."there will be two surprises when we get to heaven....the first is who made it here and the second is who did not."

The Bible teaches that is not our role to see who is truly saved or not.

On the other hand, I think that Matthew 7:16-17 is teaching that if you see someone teaching something contrary to the Bible then we know that is not coming from God.

I hope that the Bible will help you.

Strange, coz I see some so-called Christians do good deeds and stuff all the time, but they still treat other people like crap. Does that mean they're still good, just coz they produce worthful fruit? Those that claim that they follow Jesus and ride His coattails but they don't practice what they preach or believe in it during trials or trying times. They just want Jesus for His benefits.
