There's already prayer in public schools anytime anyone wants to pray. No one can or will stop them from doing so.

But teachers and staff can't lead the students in prayer.

Yes. Some religions require you to pray a certain amount of times a day and you get bad credit. Islam is one of them. I think the Jews have set times as well but am not sure. Plus there should be a world religions class in school as an elective for middle and high schoolers so you can promote tolerance and foster unity among all the different religions in the world and maybe people would know something more about other religions then their own. If you don't want to pray in school then you could go sit in the hall or go to the lunch room or library while prayers are going on.

Thomas Jefferson, singer of the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution, and President of these United States of America, during his tenure in office, would go around to the public school in Washington DC and hand out Bibles to the students so that all would have a Bible for Bible class, and yes he would also sometimes lead out in prayer. Does that answer your question?

Girl wonder, Christians are not the only people who pray.
The question was 'prayer', not 'Christian prayer'. Read the question girl, maybe then you will stop wondering.

Yes, why not. People want to portrait themselves as open minded, but not when it comes to religion. It is simple. If a person doesn't want to pray, then don't. At least give those who do want to pray the option to practice their faith, AKA religious freedom. Or, was that added to the constitution just for show!
If Muslims are giving rooms to pray. In many Schools such as CA, they are giving them the time and the room to pray. Why not other religions, not just one, but any! fair is fair.
People shouldn't be forced to pray, and they shouldn't be forced not to pray if they wish to.

Nov 1963 our school became very silent, the teachers, janitor, bus drivers, cooks, and students all prayed together...

President Kennedy had been shot...was this a bad thing for us to do??

As a child in school I felt that this was a very good thing we were doing as part of the nation...

Sure -- as long as it isn't sponsored by the school or interfere with the running of the school.

If a student wants to say a silentprayer as he walks from one class to another -- that is OK for me. But that is about it.

There is prayer in public schools.

What is not allowed, and should not be allowed is forced prayer. Teachers, principals, etc. are not allowed to lead prayer. Having a time set aside for prayer is also coercive on those who do not wish to pray.
