I felt sorry for her cause she's a poor black girl.

Racism sucks, doesn't it?

(just so you know, I'm asking cause my ex's girlfriend sent me a message with the first text...when I told my ex about it and that I was offended, he said I was overreacting. So I wrote "racism sucks, doesn't it" on his facebook account and he said I was accusing him of being a racist and got extremely annoyed. I said that I was offended and that I just wrote that statement to say that the text I received I felt truly offended by and was not accusing him of being a racist. Who's right or are we both wrong? oh yeah, I'm black and he's white and his girlfriend is white by the way)

First one, yes, almost definatly. He could have said she's a poor girl, but bringing race along side it is what makes it racist.
I don't see how the second one could be though.

How come she couldnt just say poor woman? I know thats how most people are able to idenfy ones race , but im sure it didnt matter to you what race the person was, and didnt have to know all that , there are other people who are different races that are poor too. Im black and im sure i dont want to be know as that. Because it would make me feel that sence im black everyone who is , is to, which is far from ture. There are pently of people of color who have good honorable jobs. She might not of meant anything by it, but you still need to tell her to think next time before she speaks and leave it at that.

It is hard to say when the phrases are taken out of context, but I wouldn't consider either to be racist if they weren't being used in a derogatory manner.

It has gotten to the point now where you can't say anything without "offending" somebody. Just about anything can be interpreted as offensive in some way to somebody who's on a "witch hunt". It just goes to show how many people out there are not happy unless they have something to complain about.

Honestly, racism is probably the touchiest issue out there.
However you shouldn't mind him. You should mind her. She said it.
He said you were over-reacting, to him. You should have brought it to her.
Either way, technically you are wrong, because it's not his deal, she's got her own mind and mouth to account for her actions. HOWEVER...She's wrong for the inclusion of race into a comment like that.
Keep in mind, he's your ex, he dated you, and didn't mind race then. I think it's the inner "catfight" many women feel towards a man's ex. They HAVE to be better and talk the ex down. And I did say many and not all.

its sound bad because he mentioned the word black..so it makes it kinda racist cause he's not black..ppl have that mentality..because ur black and he's white..they would c it as racist...but in reality if he would of said "i feel sorry for the girl"...it would of been fine..but once he mentioned her color it turns negative...so you need to help him realize that it does look bad in his part..cause without the color in the sentence i think you would've known who he was talking about..he needs to be more aware of the kind of things he says

I don't know if I would say it was racist. It is taken out of context so we have no idea why he said that.

because "black" was mentioned, it became racist

she is just a poor girl, no matter what race, it has nothing to do with it
