It is generally agreed that the greyhound is the fastest dog breed, able to reach speeds of 45 miles per hour on a sprint race track.

Greyhounds are the quickest dogs but can't run at speed over a really long distance, Lurchers, which are greyhound crosses, usually with a collie can run almost as fast as the grayhound and because of the collie in them they can run for longer periods

A Greyhound....I went to an adopt a greyhound fundraiser thing where they try to give homes to retired greyhounds and I think they said something like 25-30 mph, but I don't know how long!

Greyhounds are fast, but they cant keep up the speed. They are better for fast sprints not long distance if thats clear.

Fastest top end is the grey - over 40 mph and can hold bout 1/4 mile. The whipet has a faster "take off" the Saluki is a better distance runner....

the fastest breed is the greyhound they have been clocked at up to 45 miles per hour. In general they can travel at approx 59 feet per second for 820 feet then drop to 54 feet per second for another 820 feet before dropping off significantly.

I have three rescue greyhounds and I defy any other dog to run as fast as they do....its quite breathtaking, and thats only watching them!
