did any of you guys read in the papers, about that young 21 year old girl who had given birth to two twins and refused a blood transfusion and died as a result, because of her religious beliefs, she still refused despite medics telling her that she would die,? i found this very hard to take in, how can a religious belief over power maternal instincts? and surely "jehovah" would forgive this poor girl, if she had that transfusion, for the sake of her and her new babies?

if there is any jehovahs reading this, what wud you do in this situation? would you choose your religion before your babies?? and die as a result?

what are your views on it?

ladybird- this was a life saving blood transfusion, they didnt have the time to check for alternatives

i still stick to this conclusion, missy, and u know im only talking hyperfetically, as in this circumstance, yes i agree people die from child birth, through mass loss of blood but if the medics could save a life through transfusions, then there you go, but say the whole world relied on this form of religion, imagine trebling that number 100,000 each year? and not just through child birth, through all other diseases, wounds, wars, and so on..... but thankfully like i sed, thank god for shall i say "different" religions and more so that of atheists

Jehovahs witnesses are a cult. Anyone that will let someone die rather then to have proper medical care shouldn't even been considered a religion. Anyone who can follow such practices should have their damn heads examined. Now those poor little babies are going to grow up with out a mother. How terrible is that. Shame on those people to brain wash that girl into thinking her cult religion was more important then taking care of her children.

What a hysterical conclusion!

"if the whole world followed the JW way, earth would be in huge trouble now wudnt it."

Do you think that the earth isn't already in huge trouble?

100,000 people die each year across the world from blood loss following childbirth. Most of them are not witnesses. What the sun forgot to report is that a known heart condition contributed towards this lady's death. How do you know that the she refused a transfusion even though she was told she would die? There is no evidence that a blood transfusion would have saved her life. There are many factors involved in her death which (as expected) have not been reported by the papers.

I suggest that if you want to know the truth about non blood products and the technology available today during surgical procedures then you contact the watchtower society directly before speculating.

edit

You quote that you are all for the scientific way. Jehovah's witnesses have some of the top scientists and surgeons studying and developing the best alternatives to blood surgery. They work closely with health services to provide the option of non blood surgery to 'everybody', an offer which is taken up by many non witness health professionals if they ever have the need for surgery.

Blood is cheap, which is why it is used, but that does not mean it is the better option. Its risks are higher than procedures using non blood products and the recovery rates are much slower.

You cannot blame the decision of individuals not to take blood on the state of the world today!

Before we pass judgement on the Jehovah's witnesses let's get some understanding. Jehovah is the believed biblical name for GOD. According to biblical historians, around the 2nd century the name Jehovah became in wide usage as the proper English translation of the Hebrew "יְהֹוָה". So jehovah's Witnesses believe in GOD.

Christmas is a pagan tradition that was incorporated into the Roman Catholic faith to make Catholocism appealing to pagans. Remember, the bible stresses worship on the Sabath; most faiths worship on Sunday in homage to the Pagan Sun God. Easter (with the Bunny..etc), Christmas on Dec. 25th, the bust of Mary, Joseph and Jesus. An Arian-looking Jesus, the Pope himself are products of pagan infusion.

GOD gives all who follow him free will. The major problem is that faith has been corrupted by biblical translation. Those who have been entrusted to translate the bible have not always been the most trustworthy stewarts.

This is not a new question.
The mistake people make here is ASSUMING that the person would have lived if they had been given the 'magical' blood transfusion. Jehovah's witnesses accept many alternative non- blood transfusions. These likely had been tried without success so it is likely that a blood transfusion would have had little effect either, i am given to understand that this in fact is what the family were told.
People with children die every day despite the best efforts of the excellent medical profession and often despite having blood transfusions.
Even doctors are trying to avoid using blood wherever possible because of rejection issues and problems over screening.
You say that surely Jehovah would forgive this poor girl. That may well be the case , but would she forgive herself for contravening her christian conscience?

I guess that would be just like commiting suicide. Not taking a tranfusion to save your life when you know you are going to die. Some people think that suicide is an unforgivable sin because you kill yourself you can't ask for forgivness afterwards. However, the soul never dies. Your body is just a hull for the soul. You don't get forgiveness for your body you get forgiveness for your soul. Your soul is how you communicate with God so maybe she still has a chance. I agree with you though the jehovahs witnesses are crazy. Thier religion is based mainly on the old testiment in the bible. We don't have to go by that anymore because Jesus died on the cross for the sins of the world. The new testiment is what we should be focused on now. If you want to know more about anything I have said you can go get a bible if you don't already have one. Make sure it is the Original King James version.

Many people are not aware that Jehovah's Witnesses will accept many other alternatives in the place of blood transfusions. There has been much advancement in the medical field that gives us a variety of options that are life-saving. While we do refuse blood because of the biblical command in Acts 15:28 &29, we make informed, educated choices on what other treatments we will accept. Just to answer the last part of your question...I choose life everlasting on a paradise earth where myself, my children, and all obedient mankind will receive untold blessings - Titus 1:2 Revelation 21:3 &4.

People that know God know that even babies do not come before him.

Too many people shape shift their beliefs to suit themselves.

Though it is not my belief to refuse a blood transfusion. I certainly respect those who do. And what a different world this would be if people stuck to their convictions the way this woman did.

Well ...RELIGIONS... are the biggest problem in our society. The faith of people on his God It's the most crazy thing that we can observe.
Some people don't eat Cow because it blessed by their GOD and childes and adult people died from hungry...
Some ones don't eat Pork because it blessed as well and many of them died from hungry...
Into certain countries women can't show their face...
They kill people in name of his GOD...
Mothers prefer die a given birth their childes because denied recept blood for other body...
All that disgrace because their religion.
The religion in all cases are always a opression some ones are more smooth then others but all them are some way opression because obstruct people from do what must to be razonable done.
I'm religious as well.

Your Question is a few weeks too late, this has been answered ad nauseam. No point in going over it again.
People Like shelley are what was mentioned of in the Bible.
The apostle Paul also warned against “the trickery of men.” (He encountered “deceitful workers” who pretended to present the truth but who actually distorted it. To attain their objectives, such men may resort to a selective use of evidence, emotionally loaded language, misleading half-truths, devious innuendo, and even outright lies.

Christians are commanded to ‘abstain from blood’

Acts 15:28, 29: “The holy spirit and we ourselves [the governing body of the Christian congregation] have favored adding no further burden to you, except these necessary things, to keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled [or, killed without draining their blood] and from fornication. If you carefully keep yourselves from these things, you will prosper. Good health to you!”
There the eating of blood is equated with idolatry and fornication, things that we should not want to engage in.
Is a transfusion really the same as eating blood?

In a hospital, when a patient cannot eat through his mouth, he is fed intravenously. Now, would a person who never put blood into his mouth but who accepted blood by transfusion really be obeying the command to “keep abstaining from . . . blood”? (Acts 15:29) To use a comparison, consider a man who is told by the doctor that he must abstain from alcohol. Would he be obedient if he quit drinking alcohol but had it put directly into his veins?

There is someone who can give a person life again, and that is God. Don’t you agree that, when face to face with death, turning one’s back on God by violating his law would be a poor decision? I truly have faith in God. Do you? His Word promises a resurrection for those who put faith in his Son. Do you believe that? (John 11:25)

I was brought up a JW, but am not one any more. JW's believe that blood is the source of life and belongs to God and God alone. Once blood leaves the body, it should be "poured out upon the ground", never ingested or toyed with - doing so would upset God. Given their resolute belief in a resurrection hope as outlined in the New Testament, I'm sure the woman involved thought she was giving up the possibility of living longer in this "corrupt system of things" for the promise of everlasting life on a paradise earth once she is resurrected because of her belief in God and following God's rules (as outlined and interpreted by the Watchtower and Bible Tract Society). Most religions have strange and potentially life threatening beliefs in their dogma, but the JW's adhere to theirs very rigidly.

Although I do not hold JWs in very high esteem, I do find their faith - misplaced as though I see it - to be more redeeming than most other "christian" religions. I would never raise my kids to be JWs, but more because their version of worship requires an amount of social and psychological repression/opression that I find to be less than healthy for young people (or people of any age for that matter) - not to mention their lack of anything approaching a grasp on reason or logic.
