Assuming for the sake of argument that a god exists, he has watched but remained silent and inevident through many thousands of years of war, rape, mass murder on a prodigious scale, agonising torture, unspeakable acts against the most innocent of children, burnings, dismemberment... an unimaginable catalogue of human suffering... so I was wondering, is there anything at all which would make him step in and say "enough is enough"? What scarcely conceivable horror would have to occur (or be about to occur) before he would come out of hiding and do something about it?

Mmm... it's not looking too good for God's character references, is it?

If you believe in him at all,you have to accept that he is a malevolent, bloodthirsty tyrant so why would he step in?

It isn't God who 'has watched but remained silent and inevident through many thousands of years' that created the reality of this world. It is the simple fact that when He spoke, no one listened. He has shown Himself but, too many deny the obvious. Man feels that he is in control. He is too intelligent to listen to and acknowledge God. And, he has reaped what he has sowed ever since.

Yes, there will come an end to man's pathetic and costly attempt at controlling his own destiny while under the influence of Satan. "For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect (God's people) those days will be shortened." Matthew 24:21-22. This is the pitiful culmination of things to come because of man's failure to look and listen. All he had to do was learn and take heed.

It should serve as no surprise though. People are hard headed and hard hearted. They don't want answers. They want appeasement. Many people on this forum alone are evidence to that fact. They want to be told that they can continue to do as they please and achieve better outcomes. They want the same sinful actions to produce a different results. They are like the couch potato who thinks he can lounge his life away and get buff. They want bad + bad + bad, to = good. And they are dumbfounded enough to claim this as intelligence?

It is disheartening that it will have to come to this (as we STILL haven't learned) conclusion. Maybe for this reason, Christ said He would separate the wheat from the tares and the sheep from the goats. Some people will never learn.

They won’t realize their error until the ignorant bliss and arrogance that obscures their reality is removed from them their sight. They won't understand until the world system they worship (it's fast approaching, people) collapses on them and we finally get to use the weapons that our scientists and hateful minds have created. Sad, but, self defeat is the nature of man. God is love.

God would intervene if something really did threaten His overall domain and the woven threads of truth, beauty and goodness of his developing universe of universes. Otherwise the interventions are up to those heavenly helpers who have been given authority in their respected realms of jurisdiction. Don't make the mistake of misjudging "God's" domain.

You can say or do anything, my friend, but compassion, duty and decency do have their power in the overall contentious thoughts of the minds of rebels.

I find it amusing that most atheists still throw out variations of this argument, it's getting really tired.

If He helped one person, by like, say, striking a potential attacker with lightning, He'd have to do it for EVERYONE. Understand?

If you dont' understand or refuse to, then why even bother trying to argue?

You also gotta take into consideration, anyone who truly believes and follows in Him, will always be protected. So either way, He can't actually stop the person who's doing the harrassment, but He can ensure that the person being harassed/attacked is not one of His.

Auschwitz churned merrily along for over two years, killing innocent men, women and children by the millions, and there was no divine intervention to stop it. In fact, when it was finally stopped it was by the army of the godless communists of the USSR.

I think you would have to paint a better picture of the atrocities
you speak of...
But then if you did that you would only be called "disgusting", and run the risk of being banned.
So meh :\
Whatever.

On the contrary, God likes the heinous things and works behind the scenes to make them possible. He'd never try to stop something that gives him that much amusement.

That's why Hitler, Stalin and Mao were so successful.

the answer lies in the good that is in the world. If it's good, it comes from God. The world is under the sin curse. God will bring it all to a conclusion as he has never left us.

I believe God intervenes in ways we are unaware of, and yes He will be doing just that shortly. His intervention will be total and just. We need to be patient and wait.

God is not controlling I suppose. If he COULD change it, than he would. If your daughter was being raped, you would stop it. We are supposedly his children. So I guess he is not capable of stopping it.

As God killed the fig tree, He is capable of terminating anyone's "contract" here. Just a word on you ( generally speaking ) are gone.
