I try to start out a little slower then every one ells. Then all pick up speed after every mile. At the last 200 meters all give it may all. It works out for me i was third in state. But i wonder if i could of dune better.

Actually your racing plan is great. When I ran in College we also did the start out slow increase as the race goes on thing. As the season wore on our slow became faster and we did real well as a team. To get faster for a 5k, increase your base and do more intervals. doing intervals is very little to no recovery will make you better.

I agree it's okay to start out slower than everyone else, but consistency is what wins the races. In other words, the more even your splits, the better chance you have of doing well. So the more exact your mile splits are the better off you'll be.

I did an out-and back 5 miler one time where my turn-around split was 1 second different than my second leg time. Didn't plan it that way, but it sure was a great run and a great PR.

I think you need to start out stronger and be more consistant over the whole race. 5k isn't that long. More training will help.
