Textbooks tend to have support from facts.

I don't believe any book which cites itself as its only validation.

The bible is full of inconsistencies and errors. If it were a divine document then those should not be in there. In fact, there are so many interpretations of the bible, it is looney.

The idea of blindly believing in a paranormal being based solely on the bible is silly. There needs to be some other proof to back it up. However, there is none. The bible was written by man. The stories were originated by man. There was no god involved.

As for textbooks. Yes they are written by man. However, you can find the evidence to support what is in those textbooks. They are backed up by the evidence. That is why they are much more believable than the bible.

well, lets see

when i read "the night before christmas" I am able to deduct, through reason and logic, that Santa doesnt really fly around in a sleigh being pulled by flying reindeer delivering gifts to the good children of the world.

When i read history text books about world war two, an even that contains photographs which were taken at the time, and accounts given by people who were there at the time, and objects, writings, phrases, etc from people at that time, its pretty logical, to assume its at least fairly accurate and truthful.
Also, when i walked through the concentration camp in Dachau in Germany, and saw the furnaces, and the barracks, and such, its pretty easy to compare evidence A, with text book B, to come up with logical conclusion C.

get the clue?

Depends on the book, and what it's trying to accomplish.

It's not just that the Bible is written by men, it's that it's written by men and it makes a number of claims that are either outright false or extraordinarily unlikely and utterly unsupported by evidence. It's like 'Timecube' and 'If I Did It' mashed together.

To some it's a matter of principle. They site the "mumbo jumbo" that is the bible, the myths, while not acknowledging that unlike the book of myths and fables they claim the Bible is, it contains historically and archaeologically verifiable references to people dates and events.

No, no, I do believe in it as a work of fiction.

As to the other works, they are tested rigourously and held up to peer review. I don not believe in other mythology though it was also written by man. Can you say that about the Bible, where anyone who doesn't believe in it is "blind" to it's meaning?

Has nothing to do with who wrote it... has everything to do with what's in there. The stories of magic and angry gods that do horrible things belong more in the FANTASY section of life and not in the FACT section.

I don't believe any of them are Absolute Truth. I don't make claims that they are delivered of any God. And I don't put faith in something just because someone says I have to or else....
