I don't mean like your legacy or the people you leave behind, but do you believe that your conscious energy is separate from your body? Do you believe that this consciousness lives on as "you", or that it is just recycled into a universal consciousness? Or do you believe that our bodies are the beginning and end of who we are?

Baritone...I'm asking a question without any agenda (I know that's rare in this forum). I'm not gonna put forward any theories on consciousness but if you want to read more about consciousness studies there are many great books at your local library. But you don't have to take my word for it...

I believe that it is possible that there is more to the idea of the self than a simple body, that the consciousness exists beyond simple neuron networks, and that we can survive death. Yet, I have yet to come up with a reason of why I should believe that any of that is true.

I believe that I am less than my physical body. I am an odd growth of consciousness on top of the biochemical churning robot.
I am also more, because the things that affect me are more than my body. I am Star Trek TNG, I'm the war in Iraq, and I'm Y!A.

I believe our bodies give rise to our consciousness. I'm not certain of the nature and method, so I can't really say what happens once the body dies.
I imagine it'll be like before I was born. If I exist, I probably won't be aware of it.

When I die I will shut down and that will be the end of it.
hey I miss my 2 cats that died but they are gone and they are not floating in the atmosphere, neither are my 3 grandparents that have died since I was born. Dead means dead at that is the end of it. No more, finito, terminated, over, understand ?

There is no consciousness without biology.
What possible mechanism are you postulating for something like that?
The body is conscious, and so when it dies, so does any consciousness.

yes, far more,
the patterns of value that form you go beyond your life and beyond your death, at death 'I' is no longer, yet there is good beyond death - something as simple as ego cannot sever it's connection to the source. Ego comes after pre-intellectual awareness.
I feel my quality effect on reality is not in any way hindered, it is as free as my will and as determined as the 'way'
the cycle is:
from life,
beyond death ,
to life.
Atheism indicates neither immorality nor lack of quality

Personally, I don't. I think death will just be like a dreamless sleep. You won't know you're doing it.

No, when I die it is done. There is nothing else once the brain shuts down.
