recently, many muslim clerics and scholars jointly wrote and signed a letter stating their willingness to maintain and strive for peace and harmony among religions and asking for the cooperation of the Christian community.the two religions have famously fought against each other many times in the past, and many muslims and christians still have a sort of apprehension towards each other.anyway, the Church at first, while supporting the idea, wasn't exactly very optimistic about its outcome.now it has finally replied and asked forgiveness for the Crusades, agreed to cooperate and joined the muslims' struggle against terrorism.Coming to the point, this was just a tiny, but significant step towards not only muslim-christian unity, but also towards worldwide peace since these two religions make up a very big percentage of the world population.so,my question is,do you feel this effort would be successful and that there would be ANY change in the present-day situation or is it just another media stunt

There is a chance for anything. There is a chance we might find life on other planets, that we may find more new creatures in the deep deep sea, the universe is so vast that is behind our beliefs, but when it comes to people to truly and honestly getting 100% getting along, chances are so tiny, and getting smaller with the increase of world population.

Many reasons why it won't happen.
Muslims, even those who will not say it out load, want the whole world to be Muslims, or under the control of Muslims. One or the other.
No matter how much the Christians apoloogize for what happened hundreds of years! The Muslims will keep holding on to their anger over it, as if it is their favorite toy. Never mind it was a reaction to their action.
The letter was written only to the Christians. As nice as it may sound! Why not address the letter to the Muslims as well. It takes two for tango, and two for Peace. As if the Muslims has no blame in what goes around the world. It is the fault of one side, and the other side are just defending themselves. hard wash.

How would there be unity if the Muslims tells the Christians their book is corputed and fasle, and at the same time they want the Christians to learn, understand, and the most important to convert to Islam. Yes they all do want everyone to convert to Islam. I don't know how many times read how so many are converting to Islam, and they get so please and thank Allah for it, but if they hear a person converted out of Islam! They will either accuse him to be ill, or it was a lie, and the best one I heard. It is the Jews who are spreading lies to insult their religion. That is a good one.

How on earth is there ever going to be unity between the Muslims and Chrisitians when they are not united themselves! They are killing each others.

In the Middle East it appears as if they are getting along, but they are not. The only way a Christians with the Muslim is for them to do what the Muslims say, no if but or about it. In Saudi, no one is permitted to bring in their book of faith into their land. Not one Church, Temple, or any other places of worship other than those for the Muslims.

Do they get along! yes they do, to a certain degree, but unity is too much to hope for! My opinion, I don't think so. Muslims and Christians are not united within each others.

Last and certainly not least. Sorry for the long answer. A very good question.

This is how life is and I wish there is something that we can do to influence ppl to have moral values. I pray all the time for the change and peace in the world but it seems as if things get worse instead, however, praises shall continuously flow out of my mouth and I wont stop praying. I have nothing to lose by keep on having faith in God that there will be good change in the near future.

I hope there will be. The letter is very beautiful. It makes me glad that Muslim leaders want for there to be understanding and not conflict between the Muslim world and the West. You can view the full text of the letter at the web site below (scroll down). Read it before you bash Islam and Muslims.

I don't see how there can be unity here since these two are diametrically opposed, and even a shallow or surface view of either religion will demonstrate their incompatibility, not to mention a deeper look at the basic teachings.

Depending on where you live, we already have Christian-Muslim unity. Visit Dearborn, MI. There's 50,000 muslims there, plus another 250,000 in the surrounding area. There's very little religious strife between them and everyone else (who are mostly Christian).

Please remember that even most of the extremists aren't calling for the fall of Christianity. They're against Americans, "the West," Israel, and anyone else they see as a threat to Muslims. It's not our religion they're generally objecting to.

It's possible, but very unlikely. I'd say you'd need a few generations, a couple of charismatic leaders, and for the control of each religion to stay firmly in the hands of ecumenical moderates the whole time.

Just a media stunt, since even today Christian-Muslim is already quite well united (to do it much further, Jesus need to return), that's why despite what the mass media said, we currently actually have world peace.

I really hope no Christian buys this, because Muslims deny the Resurrection of Christ. They deny the Trinity. The Allah of Islam is NOT the same as the God of the Bible.

Maybe you should read the Qur'an. It clearly states that Muslims are not to make friends with the Jews, nor with Christians, because we are friends of the Jews.

If Islam ever succeeds in wiping out Israel (doubtful) then they will come after Christians.

Muslims want to impose global Islamism (ie where there is only Islam)

Thats the root of all the problems. there will never be unity
