First you will need to detox. Call a hospital and ask for a referral they will give you drugs like Valium or adavan to prevent you from seizures. Then I would follow up with A.A.. this is a great place to be in early recovery. Good Luck! I was addicted to heroine, cocaine and alcohol. I now have 1 yr. 1mo 27 days sober.
A 28 day rehab center is a good way to go as well.

Try AA. It helps some people.
I used to drink a lot then I got a DUI. That changed everything. I decided to stop drinking the way I used to. It was really hard to change my habits to not include alcohol. It was hard being around my friends that drank. I made myself stay busy in the evenings with activities that didn't include alcohol. I switched what I drank, because after work I would come home and suck down beers. That was what I was in the habit of doing. I switched to Mike's Hard Lime, I could put one in a large cup with LOTS of ice and make it last all evening. This is what worked for me, it might not work for everyone. If you are really an alcoholic you will probably have to avoid all alcohol completely.
A good rule is One drink an hour, Three in an evening.
Good luck.

get a new hobby. It's most likely that you are addicted to the way alcohol makes you feel, and not the actual taste of it. There are many activities you can do that can make you feel just as good, even better - because they don't come with hangovers. You can try running and get a runner's high, or if that doesn't do it for you there are a lot of extreme sports out there that can get you the high you may seek. Also, if you drink because of lack of confidence, then do things that will get you confidence instead of relying on alcohol for that. For instance, instead of making a dumb joke at a party to get a girl's attention, you can tell her about your extreme sport adventures and actually impress her.

speaking from personal experience : go to AA meetings, get a sponsor, start working the steps. that's the only thing that truly worked for me, and many others.

It is too hard to do it alone. You will need help. Contact your doctor and ask for help. He or she can give you meds to help along with places to go for help. There are many organizations that will work with you on a daily basis to help you and there is no charge.
