Every time I have heard of somebody busted for cocaine it has been either a summary or a special court martial.
Art 15s tend to be for marijuana use - harder drugs get harsher punishments.

As a company commander, I referred a few Soldiers to the battalion commander for drug use. As a battalion commander, I gave a few Article 15s for drug use. That's generally what happens for cocaine use, authority for non-judical punishment (Article 15) is withheld by the battalion commander so that a field grade Article 15 can be given. These are usually only given for the first offense. Subsequent offenses usually result in a Court Martial or, more often, removal from the service for misconduct. Both usually carry a bad conduct discharge.
Field grade Article 15s usually result in reduction in grade, forfeiture of pay and some sort of restriction.

No. But I was a Driver/Guard for a Court Martial. He ate a piece of hash. The charge was "Disobeying a direct order from a commissioned officer". The CM took 15 minutes. He got 120 days at OCS (Old Coleman Stockade) Mannheim FRG.
It's not nice to fool Mother Nature. The UCMJ is a lot like Mother Nature.

You're kidding, right? Article 15 of the UCMJ is for minor offenses. If you get busted for Cocaine you're going to go down hard, not a slap on your wrist. A Bad Conduct Discharge is the least and a Dishonorable Discharge is the lovely parting gift you will receive.......

Yes, It depends upon your rank. For E4 and below usually UCMJ for E6 and above some times a court martial or just a Dishonorable Discharge doesn't matter if you have 19 years and 360 days. It just means your stupid

My brother-in-law pissed hot for coke twice while he was active duty army. all they did was take a stripe, give him some extra duty, and sent him to rehab. In the end they wouldn't let him re-up his active duty contract, but he is still serving in the army reserves. I also worked with a guy (I'm in the air force) that also pissed hot for coke twice. He got thirty days confinement on each occasion and was discharged, but he now works for the army as a civilian. I guess different branches handle it differently. There is supposed to be no tolerance for drug use, but I don't think that's how it always works.

i was in vietnam as a combat marine with the ninth marine reg at conthien, i knew of someone in 1967, that had recieved warning from us grunts, that our sergeant major had already passed the word 'anyone doing junk while on lp's or op's in the dark of the night, may not see the sunrise', well, a marine was found geratted to death. nobody ever knew how it happened, but most of us thought it was the sergant major crawling out and catching one of his marines

First time, he got extra duty, busted down to E-4, and sent to rehab. Next offense he got, he was discharged.
