I've heard the average gestation for dogs is about 63 days. Does this vary depending on the breed - for instance, do miniature and small breeds whelp sooner?

63 days. Good luck. We had a little last year it was a mad house for 2 months after they were born. You can tell she is in labor if her temp drops below 100 degrees fyi

All breeds of dog have an average gestation of 63 days.

Small breeds will usually go into heat for the first time at a younger age, but otherwise they are the same.

Normally 60-69 days, but at about 40 days then again at 50 days you should take the small dog in to have her checked. There is a 50/50 chance that your dog may have to have a C-Section because of her small size plus the puppies may not be turned correctly and if this is the case, labor could kill your mother dog.
