I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours. -
I'm not an Athiest..I'm Christian and I do not believe I'm gonna be 6FT UNDER when I die. -Sarcastic-

I think it is absolutely true!!
I am an atheist now, but I used to be a christian. When I believed, I acknowleged that there is no empirical evidence of God, period, especially the Christian God.
Yet, I was quick to dismiss the idea of other Gods, when even the one I believed in had no real evidence behind it.
This led me to ask myself, why do I believe in the Judeo-Christian God?
The answer was simple enough. I believed because I was indoctrinated to believe in God, in that God, and this indoctrination was bolstered by the teaching of fear. Fear of the reprisals of a jealous, immature, petty, tribal God. Fear that God would no longer protect me. Fear that I would go to Hell instead of Heaven. Fear that society would reject me.
In fact, the reasons I believed in Santa were the exact same reasons I believed in God. I was indoctrinated to believe in him from an early age, and everywhere I went, I was bombarded with symbols, songs, and stories about how Santa came to be. I was encouraged to sing those songs myself, along with other children. We wrote letters to him and sat on his lap when he appeared with his elves at the mall. All of my youg friends believed in Santa, so there must be a strong probability that he really does exist.
Even the reasons for the fraud were the same. To gain control of my mind and behavior.
"Be a good little boy, El C, and believe in Santa, or else he will bring you another lump of coal this year."
The only difference between God and Santa is that eventually, the perpetrators of the Santa Hoax eventually came clean. And those of us who clung onto the fantasy finally faced facts. Most people never do that concerning God.
I just finally caught on. One of the few, but now awake.

I am not sure that I understand how you can "believe in one fewer god" than I do. Surely that would make me a polytheist?
Or is this just another out of context quote you have lifted from somewhere else? In which case I definitely agree that you have all the makings of a good Christian.
You want to be 6ft under when you die, I would rather wait until a few days afterwards.

*thinks* erm............ i'm not an athiest, i'm a christian.
What question am i supposed to answer? You did not pose a question........ you just mumbled something about possible gods and six feet under. AND how can you state that you're an athiest because you believe in one fewer gods than they do. If you believe in more than one god, you are a polytheist. If you believe in God, then you are not an athiest. Your 'question' was not a question and didn't make any sense. â¥

That's a statement not a question. You just twisted someone elses quote in the wrong way.
It's referring to the fact that everyone thinks there religion is the right one. Considering athiests don't believe in having a religion, the statement is invalid when applying it to athiests.

When you say "so called" what do you mean?
With regards to what do I think, well it is logic. Not something I am sure you will agree with, but seeing as there are literally thousands,if not hundreds of thousands of gods, all created in imaginations, why should yours be any different?
Oh,because a book written several thousand years ago by some goat herders says so.I see.

Stephen F Roberts said it very well.
(If you had a better understanding of how to write, you could have made it much clearer that this is a quotation).
Now, what is it you don't understand?
I fail to understand the point of your sarcasm ... could you explain the "joke", please? I am not a Chritsean, and so I may be missing something important that would allow the joke to be funny.

I truly have no clue what you believe, for you have announced on the WWW that you have less of a belief in God than an atheist, and that makes no sense coming from a self-described Christian.

This is why Christians are atheists to all gods but one. Many believers tend to concentrate on their religion and forget that they write off other gods as mythology without a second thought.
