Trust me you dont want it.

This is an ideal opportunity to try out the new Linux Ubuntu 7.10, the graphics and effects are far superior to Vista see link below :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xC5uEe5Oz...

Ubuntu is free as it is open source, the download link is :

http://www.ubuntu.com/

Once you have downloaded Ubuntu 7.10, you will have an ISO image file. You will then need to create a bootable disc of the file.

This can be achieved by using Nero Burning ROM if you have it or MagicISO a free trial of which is available for download :

http://www.magiciso.com/

Once you have created the bootable disc, we are going to call it the LIVE CD.

Start your PC from the Ubuntu live CD, select start or install when prompted, once the Ubuntu desktop has appeared in the top left hand corner there is an option to install, double click and the installation screen will appear.

Once Ubuntu has asked you about regional settings etc. it will then take you into the partitioning table, if you select the default setting which is on the top, Ubuntu will then automatically sort the space it needs and install its own Grub bootloader.

I am so taken with Ubuntu 7.10, I have ditched windows altogether and I am now running Ubuntu as my primary operating system.

You can run quite a number of windows applications on Ubuntu using WINE, a piece of software that emulates windows. For details of this visit :

Using Linux may initially seem daunting in places, but you will get use to it, I did.

You can also run Ubuntu using the Live CD without any kind of installation. However this will be somewhat slower and you would be restricted as to running applications, it would just for browsing the web really.

When you say "Me", do you mean "Windows Millennium Edition"? The answer is, you don't, not under any circumstances. Aside from being eight years old, that edition of Windows was widely regarded even at the time as being terrible.

Stick with Windows XP, if you have it - alternatively you might find it runs better with a version of Linux, for example Ubuntu - these tend not to require such a high-powered machine.

What you are able to do is have that save enable you to plug-contained in the computer to AC. turn it on and boot it into the BIOS and note what it truly has put in? There are courses you are able to acquire off the internet and burn them to CD or Zipdrive (jumptcontinual) and then run this methodology to ensure what's truly on the gadget. those prorgrams can attempt the CPU, video and RAM. maximum DELL computer have this on the HDD in hidden section, yet countless those shops or techs may have wiped the HDD thoroughly and subsequently eliminating this application. So in case you opt for to play it possibility-free do as I surely have stated or otherwise take the chance and be unhappy with the used computer. also in certain situations it no longer an outstanding theory to get used laptops because you do not comprehend who had it previous or the way it changed into dealt with. yet in certain situations you get luckly like I did and placed one which changed into infrequently used and regarded new. one extra element you should purchase the computer and pay someone to look it over for you.. countless tech restoration shops can try this for a small cost value.

you aint alone. i resisted Xp for 5 years, and i got ME to the point where it actually worked 99% of the time. Linux Xp2007 "linspire" is both free, and stable and itll work on older PC's...

but; put the floppy in and boot from it. at the prompt A:\ type

format c: then press OK... (no mouse drivers)

BUT. before you start, remember the motherboard drivers... or half of everything wont work! ME wont have the drivers for anything made after 1995.

after its finished formatting c, reboot it from the floppy and type SETUP at the prompt... and sit back.. installation takes around an hour and a half

Turn on computer, take installation CD, put installation CD in CD/DVD drive, reboot up computer and run installation program on installation CD. Answer a lot of annoying setup questions and keep coming back to make sure computer has not crashed or requires further annoying setup questions answering. Once installation has completed and the computer has rebooted itself about a million times to install drivers just sit back and enjoy your Random Blue Screen Machine.

If you haven't got the password, to gain entry to the data on the hard drive, I should simply take the old drive out, and replace it, then have fun setting up,

What is already on it?

If it already has Windows XP on it then I wouldn't bother installing Windows ME.

Just delete the stuff you don't want and keep the OS.
