I find this ridiculous! She had only been in the country for a month and had let the children vote on a name for the teddy bear. There were 4 children in the class called Mohammed so I don't understand why this has happened or why it is an insult to Islam. I wouldn't be insulted if they had called the bear Jesus.
What do you think?
What do others followers of Islam think? Do you think she should be flogged in public?

It's not an insult to Islam nor the Prophet Muhammad (saws) that she let the kids call the teddy Muhammad, it's an insult to Islam that Muslims allow or support such a thing to happen to her.

The whole story just boils my blood.

THIS IS POLITICAL. nothing more, .
I'll accept it is something to do with Islamic relgious law when they arrest the kids for the same crime until then you'll not convince me otherwise.
she'll be freed without punishment, guaranteed, a single muslim in authority connected to previous dissatisfaction with the school decided to make a point and got it badly wrong, they'll be overruled and liverpool will shorty get it's teacher back

i dont think with the best will in the wolrd when trying a new country people get so far into the legailities that they touch upon the haughty legal subject of naming teddy bears

crosscultural misrepresentation at it's best

(p.s good button pusher of a Q.)

Seems severe, but she should know the rules (as should anyone) going to a foreign country - especially if one is to live in that country. If she really had no idea, she should hope for extradition.

I am not a Muslim, but I did live in the Middle East for a year, and I learned as I lived there after reading up on things ahead of time the way you should act, etc.

It's ridiculous you can't have a glass of champagne there, but I wouldn't offer a glass to anyone, even if they just won the World Cup! Would you chew gum in Singapore (Fine of $300)?

Respect the laws of where you are - they are a little more strict with devients as is most of the world, if you hadn't noticed.

I think above answer says a lot about the mentality and more importantly the inflexibility of certain belief systems.

OK, so, representations of Muhammad are a no no, I think those bloody cartoons more or less proved the point - however, this is a bear and those are children, if a legal system can not think their way out of that without resorting to barbarity it really makes you wonder.

so the children can be called mohammed but a teddy bear can not.... even though the bear will never slander the name, be in lawsuits or other things that could tarnish the name or anything else.

personally i think it's foolish!

BTW is the bear named - Prophet Mohammed?! if not then who's to say it wasn't named after one of the kids who everybody liked in the class.... stupidity plain and simple!

uh, no, that isn't respect. She made a mistake, violated a custom, but so what! she had been in the country a month! Give the woman a break. Flogging is barbaric, and this reflects poorly on both the country and the culture

Ridiculous... and the claim to not be a hateful religion... I saw the first answer after your question and it made me sick. Yes the woman should have used a more common sense, but some times people just don't think.

I'm scared to see what's going to happen to her...

And islam is spreading to all parts of the world. I suppose this is what can be expected in the future- laws and punishments based on islamic belief. Right?

we borg have initial findings on these topic after a broad spectrum human cerebal scan.

we found humans r highly evolved in an area of the mind that governs the area of "faith". the "God" for them can be so real that He is lke part of their family & a bad remark rendered to their "God" is like insulting their family members. they seriously get hurt & wants to exact justice in return.

we r yet to finish the scanning.
