im planning on moving out my parents house in december. what should i do if my parents get upset and try to make me feel bad? I mean, I cant live with them forever, right?
I feel like the only reason my mother wants me to stay in her house is because i get social security checks from the state because my real dad passed away a few years back, and its like thats all she wants.. am i wrong for telling her that she can keep my checks when i leave? i really dont want them and i know she can use them...
please help with my questions.. i have alot going on, and need some advice.. thanks a lot!

If you are an adult then you have the right to move out and be independent. Just tell your mom you need to stand on your own two feet but will still give her financial support since she needs it.

Since you only get Survivors Benefits if you are under age 18, or under 19 and still in high school, I'm not sure that it's such a good idea to move out if you are under age 18 or still in high school.

(If that doesn't apply to you, then you are getting checks because you are permanently disabled. If that's the case you should mention what your disability is and how it impacts your ability to live on your own.)

I know you want freedom now; that's something most teenagers want. However, I'm guessing you are not in a position to support yourself independently except for some minimum wage type job. That job will make it pretty unlikely that you'll be able to continue on with your education.

These days it takes more than a high school education to get the kind of job that pays a lot more than minimum wage.

I remember being 18 and being envious of a friend that moved out of her parents home into her boyfriend's home. He worked at a gas station and she worked a fast food joint. In retrospect, what a boring life they must have had after the initial thrill of being out of the home.

Here's a suggestion. If you're not going to go to college, at least go to some tech training program so you can make more than minimun wage. Then when you graduate from that, move out on your own once you have a job.

Or do what a lot of us did to get away from home...go to college. That way the folks are happy that you are bettering yourself and they will probably help finance that to whatever degree they can. Also, they shouldn't get upset and try to make you feel bad.
