I have given up all drugs including Hard drugs and Marijuana, but the most difficult to quit has been Alcohol. So if its more difficult to quit, why isnt it a drug? Is Tea and Coffee and Tobacco drugs?

I quit all drugs too fairly easy, but the last one for me to quit was alcohol as well, it should be a drug, I haven't drank in over 4 years now, but I still have cravings. I think alcohol is just as bad as any other drug you can come across these days. Tea coffee and tobacco are drugs as well and in all reality so is alcohol, but it is more socially acceptable. (not sure why, everyone can see the effects of drinking). Very good question!

It is considered a drug, it's just not illegal which may change peoples views on it.

Caffiene is also a drug which is included in Tea, Coffee, Coke, and energy drinks etc...

Alcohol is one of the most used recreational drug, but because it's not criminalised like other drugs, it's not seen as deviant, and is socially accepted in the majority of the western society.

Mummy, that would mean you'd be saying other natural stuff like Magic mushrooms are also not drugs?

Drugs are basically what affect the mind and body, and Alcohol certainly does, as does caffine,

Alcohol is a drug. I'd say that Tobacco, Tea and Coffee are drugs, and it is possible to be addicted to these.

I can also understand what you are saying about the most difficult to quit.

My Mum (sober 18 years) told me that its always the last addiction which is the hardest to beat. It is very true for me. I've been sober for over a year, my eating disorder has been manageable for 5 months, I've not self-harmed in a month, but my (albeit infrequent) use of prescription drugs is the hardest to crack.

Good luck in recovery :)

it is a drug.. as is caffeine(tea n coffee) and nicotine (tobacco).
its just that alcohol is socially accepted. and the government make way too much money out of it to ban it.. same as tobacco, that's why they are restricted, so that they don't have to ban them. yet dome illegal drugs namely cannabis, do a lot less harm than the legal ones, namely alcohol. i trust you have done both, well, how many times have you thought about fighting someone while on cannabis, and how many times on alcohol. basically its all about how much money can be made from these substances. and how the government will look should they ban or de-criminalise a substance.

Like any other substance, alcohol should be taken in moderation. A glass of red wine every day is very healthy. A shot of tequila once a day is also healthy due to the fruit from which it's distilled. You wouldn't take a full box of vitamins, in the same way you shouldn't overdo alcohol. There is nutritional value to be had from alcohol, unlike most non-pharmaceutical drugs.

Alcohol, tobacco........they are all drugs but are legal because of their lobbyists and the money the US Govt makes on it!

I grew up in a house with two heavy tobacco smokers. I was sick constantly as a kid, and lost both my parents early due to smoking related diseases. Tobacco ruined my childhood. How it could STILL be legal is beyond belief!

It is a drug. Just certain people like to pretend it isn't. Tea, coffee and tobacco are also drugs, whether people like it or not.

My friend-alcohol is a drug. It has been popular throughout history and therefore is considered acceptable for usage. If it were "discovered" now,it would probably be classified as
class 2. Please,if you are serious about quitting, attend a few
meetings of Narcotics Anonymous. There,it is treated as any addictive substance. The only condition for joining is a desire to quit. Join us,you will be welcome.

It is a drug and one of the most dangerous too (along with tobacco). The only difference is that it is legal.

Tea and coffee are also drugs (caffeine) but their harmful effects are minor.
