The Month of Ramadan is when it is believed the Holy Quran "was sent down from heaven, a guidance unto men, a declaration of direction, and a means of Salvation"
It is during this month that we fast. It is called the Fast of Ramadan and lasts the entire month. Ramadan is a time when we concentrate on our faith and spend less time on the concerns of their everyday lives. It is a time of worship and contemplation.

No, of course its not disrespectful. Your intentions are clearly pure and I thank you for that. If you want to fast then go ahead and fast. Don't let anyone stop you. Inshallah, it will help you understand Islam a little bit better. No offence taken at all. I think, that at least while you are fasting and in presence of the opposite sex you should dress more modestly. Stand out less. Show your individuality by not lying, not backbiting, not cussing etc. Show your individuality through your actions. I would stay away from make up as well, however if it ever gets too much just take baby steps. No need to rush into it. The last 10 days are the best days of the month of Ramadan. Especially the odd nights of those 10 days. Inshallah, you will get the best understanding of Islam you can through fasting. And then you should celebrate it at Eid too. (at the end of Ramadan)

Judaisim, Christianity, and Islam have common geographical roots in the middle east and common historical roots in the biblical figure of Abraham. So it is not surprising that the three religions will have parallels. All three have times of penitential fasting. Ramadan is the Islamic version.

Since it is your project you should type in "Ramadan" into google and then read what it says. You can't expect us to do the work if it is your project right? The Muslims celebrate Ramadan because that is their religious man made practice. They are obviously not Christians.

Quite. I wouldn't be surprised to see your answer deleted soon. To answer the question, you need to go to the library and read some books. You have no idea of the accuracy of any non-edited or reviewed website.

Muslims have only two Holy days to celebrate. The two Holy days are Eid Alfitir, which follows the holy month of Ramadan, and Eid Aladha, which is in the Hajj (holy pilgrimage) season. Muslims celebrate Eid Aladha by slaughtering a sheep. The slaughtering of sheep is done in following the footsteps of Prophet Abraham when he was ordered by Allah (God) to slaughter his first child, Ishmael. When he told his son about it, his son told him to carry on with the order of Allah, and that he will be obedient and patient. As Abraham was tempting to slaughter Ishmael, Allah gave them a big and fat sheep to slaughter instead. The sacrificing of a sheep has become a ritual for Muslims every year in remembrance of the obedience of Abraham and Ishmael, peace be upon them. Our celebration of this day and the slaughtering of the sheep are in compliance with the teachings of our Prophet Mohammad, praising and peace of Allah be upon him. Only Muslims celebrate these two days, while at the same time, Muslims do not celebrate the Christian holidays.
As for the symbol, Muslims worship Allah (God), therefor they reject any kind of idol worshipping. We believe that Christians believe in the cross to be a symbol of their God, or the so claimed Son of God. They seek blessing and protection from this cross. Muslims seek protection and blessing only from Allah, that is why we do not have an Islamic symbol as the Christians’ cross. Some Muslims have invented the symbol of a crescent to counter the cross, but this is not authentic and it is considered as an innovation in Islam.

Muslims celebrate Ramadan. Ramadan is the 9th month in the Hijrah calender which is lunar so the months rotate backwards between the seasons and the months start when the crescent moon is sighted in the sky. This varies from country to country. Ramadan is the month when Angel Jibrial brought the Qur'an down to Muhammad(PBUH*) and is when the Hijrah started(the flight from Mecca to Medina). The Ramadan month is important because it helps Muslims get closer to ALLAH(Subhanna wa ta'ala), is the time when the Devil is locked up in Jahannam(Hell) and the gates of Jinnah(heaven) are open. If a Muslim reads the Qur'an he or she gets 70 credits for each letter he or she reads. Many Muslim men go to the Masjid(Mosque) every night in Ramadan and they read 1 Sura(chapter) of the Qur'an(Muslim holy book) every night so the Qur'an is finished by the end of the month. Ramadan also is when we can remember ALLAH(SWT) and everything he has provided us with and is when we can remember the poor by abstaining from eating, drinking and having sexual relations with our married spouse from sunrise to sunset. At the end of every fast Muslims either break their fast with dates(tumma in Arabic) and a glass of milk or water; or they pray for Maghrib(sunset prayer which has 3 units) and then break their fast. Children can fast half a day @ the age of 7 and when they get puberty they are expected to fast all day long. Puberty is for girls when she gets her first period and boys when they become 14 they are adults. At the end of Ramadan Muslims have a 3 day holiday called Eid Al Fitr which is 1 of 2 Muslim holidays. Eid Al Fitr means "Breaking the fast" and this is when all the Muslims wear their new best clothing, and invite their friends and family over for celebrations. The children either get money or candy. The traditions of Eid Al Fitr differ from country to country. In my husband's country(Saudi Arabia) for example the Muslims go and travel to their friends houses and the women and children go to one room of the home while the men go to another room and celebrate. Family members will also go to each other's homes and they will all eat like 3 or 4 times during the day. Then the men sometimes go to the prayers for Eid Al Fitr and give Zakat(2.5% of our yearly wealth or food to the poor people). My husband only gives $ to poor Muslims and he donates $24.00 to the poor($8.00 for me, $8.00 for his first wife, and $8.00 for him).
