This is a very interesting question. Listen to how and why
it was asked. Reading is a fundamental part if life, and
even in modern day living. So of a literary behemoth, like
the BIBLE, King James Version, should as is very well
respected by many, all over the world. Scientists,
scholars, teachers, philosophers, wizards, and even
some non saints, if you know what I mean. So because
this Book is such a big influence, to inquiring minds,
spiritual minds, at most, then it is a big deal. More
popular than any other Book ever written in history.
So why is there some, who would believe otherwise.
And if you are an atheist, then do you view yourself
as odd, given the fact that you are not, for whatever
reason, a believer in things unseen ? I mean faith is
a factor, in science right. Besides, these things written,
from times past, can now be proven. Do you read the
BIBLE ? Best answer wins. ***

I've read the Bible. It is highly over-rated. Of course, so are the Quran and other "holy" books, which I would bet you haven't read. And, yes, there are many scientists who believe in them, too. It just goes to show that even smart people believe weird things.

However, there is a much higher percentage of atheists in the hard sciences than in the general population.

As far as faith in science goes... Well, no, science doesn't rely on faith. That would be lazy. Science does make assumptions and theories based on those assumptions, but that's different than faith. An assumption is just something you temporarily take as true until you can get more information to back it up. Faith is something you take as true because you really want to believe it is true. They are opposites, really. A good scientist won't cling to an assumption in the face of evidence, but a "good" theist will cling to their faith and either ignore or rationalize away any evidence that contradicts it.

I have never heard such a load of abuse heaped on the Bible as is coming out of today's modern minds! Sorry, folks, if that's your honest opinions, but I find it highly amazing that a book that I've loved and studied for over 30 years now should provoke such reactions in you guys!

I have to say that many of these quotations are, quite frankly, taken way out of context, twisted and corrupted beyond recognition and, what God wrote in love for our benefit is thrown back in his face in a way that is beyond belief. I am not angry and accusing (I'm too old now), just absolutely amazed at the vehemence of your reactions.

Maybe you're seeing the Bible in the light of men and their religions and you 'lump everything together' and think they're all the same. When you examine things through your own biais you cannot possibly come to a good conclusion.

There is truth and goodness - and the knowledge of God - in this world, but the fact is that all the confusing stuff and the 'dead ends' obscure this and make us cynical that such things do really exist. We live in a world where we are in fact programmed - yes, programmed - to look at things a certain way, and to be super-critical, agnostic, atheist is the natural outcome. Our world pokes fun at anyone with any faith at all, and it's easy to jump on the bandwagon and join in the banter, thinking you know something, when in fact you know nothing.

Listen here, my study of my faith has given me riches of wisdom and understanding, of human nature and the reason why things are the way they are that unbelievers just don't have, because all this time I have been drawing from a supernatural source - the God of the universe. This has given me peace, joy and tremendous composure. Because I know the Scriptures, I can give a good and reasoned answer to most questions - whereas you unbelievers and atheists, all you can do is giggle and pour scorn. I am so sorry for you, because you are wasting your lives and your chances to develop.

I have read most the bible before, but not all. I am reading a plan now that takes me through the bible in a year, but I am also a teacher for a ladies bible study class, and I am also studying the word of God. Its not just enough to read, but must study so you know what is going on in the chapters.

I have read the bible in the past, but gave it up.

It contains some pearls of wisdom, mixed in with a lot of superstitious nonsense, and the whole thing is buggered with a healthy dose of religious fanatacism.

Read it as historical fiction, and glean what you can from it.

Then put it away.

I've read it twice all the way through. My mother is a catholic so I had to go to a catholic primary school. So I've had the 'key facts' and 'important messages' drilled into me from a very early age.
Yeah, it's a pile of badly translated poop, and the grammar, bad! like this sentence bad!

a littlle song that should tell you what i reckon.
"Read your Bible every day,
It helps to prevent truth decay"

and atheists dont believe it odd that they have no belief, that is what they are used to, it may be odd to us and an agnostic may feel wierd at not having any firm beliefs when everyone else seems to, but atheists have had a stunted education and we must pity them and try to help them

I've read it, just so I could see where Christians trying to convert me were coming from - and defend myself with the help of their own book.
