1. What is the (approximate will do) speed of light?
2. How long does light take to travel to the CLOSEST star from our sun?
I know exactly what you're thinking, but the point of this , is precisely the bottom line of your religion. How do you picture our sky, and do you have any idea regarding our macrocosm.....

Jack the giant killer....give or take. doesn't make much difference if the speed of light changed in the last billion years, or if proxima c. is three light years away or five.
Most of you people have absolutely no idea at all.
This is why it's important : 2000 years ago the stars were beleived to be heaven.
You know, that place you're promised to go when you die.
Knowledge changed, so should your beleif system.

nhprodig......no, it would take 4 years.
And no, we haven't found a unifying theory.
And no, what I said does not follow any sort of theory. Just fact based on observation.
And your links are completely broad and meaningless.

Father K, thanks for pointing out my grammar mistakes. I do speak french only.
But thanks, it only shows that this question rattles your conscience...

I am sorry. I am not a christian but I had to say I get the point of your question and I think it is good and not many people are going to understand but good for you for trying. Good luck with this. There is no reason for anyone to get so upset. She is just doing some research and if you guys believe in your faith so much there is no reason for you to insult what she is trying to say. I knew what people were going to say but hopefully you can get through to maybe just a couple people and be able to make your point. Again Good Luck!

1. At present the speed of light is assumed to be 186,000mps. It is fast no doubt.
2. No one really knows-it is assumed based on the currently accepted speed of light versus the distance to that star and is measured in "light years". Don't forget!!!!!!!!-a light year is a distance-not a time. It is based on the assumption that the speed of light has remained constant throughout eternity past and that it is not affected by gravity.
However, scientist now know that those assumptions are not correct.
Don't jump to any conclusions about how long ago light from a distant star had to start in order to get here today.

The approximate value of 3Ã108 m/s is commonly used in rough estimates for the speed of light in vacuum.
The closest star is Proxima Centauri at roughly 4.2 light years.

1. 300000000 meters/second.
2. I don't know how far away the closest star to the sun is, but if you find out the distance, you should be able to do the math.
I'm not sure how that's the bottom line of my religion though, but you've got your answer.

Well light travels at 299,792,458 meters per second, to answer your first question.
As for you second question it would take approximately 140 days
And as for that question at the end, yes. in fact I find it very interesting how many things follow the unifying theory.

1) Approximately 300,000 kilometers per second.
2) 4.2 light years.
Your question was a jumble of words. Perhaps it is YOUR precision that needs to be questioned.

In metric units, the speed of light is exactly 299,792,458 metres per second (1,079,252,848.8 km/h(at least since 1983 scientists keep changing it)
God made a very vast universe.. aint' it great!

I have no freaking clue. And honestly this has nothing to do with christianity. You are not going to find many people that haven't studied it that know these things.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but you haven't yet rocked my faith. Keep trying if you want to though, i'm pretty sure in what I believe.
