Why do our muscles ache when we are ill? Is it caused by the same lactic acid that causes our muscles to ache after we have done exercise?

When you state ill, I assume you mean a infection, cold, flu? The reason is that the immune system is fighting the invading and the invader hides in all kinds of places. So this muscle ache, like Arthritis is due to the immune system attacking. You might like to know that exercise also has an affect on the immune system.

Lack of oxygen to the muscles and a build up of lactic acid.
Try drinking more water. If in USA use bottled water.
