Lets see. . . .. Switzerland, . . . . . isn't that the country where there was controversy over a recent election poster showing a flock of white sheep in a field with a black sheep being kicked out of the field!!
Some far right Swiss political party's way of highlighting all the problems being caused by the immigrants!!!
Austria, a country with its own far right fascist party whose agenda is based on wanting all foreigners deported back to where they come from!!!
Sweden, another country promoting a fascist agenda, where the people are taxed to hell and back and the most manic depressive in Europe.
Any more countries promoting Peace, Harmony and goodwill you care to add to your list???

Two reasons - Freedom and Christianity - are the major reasons we come under fire. The countries you've mentioned are Socialist societies with little or no standing in the World. They do not believe in Capitalism, so they are not a target based on $$$ - they are relatively poor in $$$ and resources. They don't offer the level of freedom in their society that we offer here. The Muslims (don't say Middle Eastern, it's only Muslim Extremists committing the terrorism) hate that we offer a free society. They hate that women have the right to vote, own land, and wear whatever they want. They hate that everyone envies our lifestyle. They hate us because we are Isreal's strongest and most trusted ally. Attacking Switzerland would be like sucker punching a little kid; you may win the fight, but nobody thinks you're very brave. You wanna be respected as a toughguy, you go after the biggest guy in school - you win, you're king of the World...that's their attitude.

Whoops! You need to check the news from sources other than the U.S. The Austrian police arrested a half dozen Muslim men in the past month who were planning terrorist attacks against targets in Germany. And the presence of so many immigrants in the nation of the EU has become a big political issue as well. It has led to the rise in strength of various parties in Europe with an anti-immigrant stance. The recent election in Switzerland showed their party achieving a percentage of the vote which hadn't been achieved by any party since 1919!
Austria contributed a transport company to the NATO effort in Bosnia some years ago. They also provided troops to the UN Force in Lebanon (UNOFIL), which is a peace-keeping mission under Chapter Six of the UN Charter. Sweden prefers to make armaments, rather than use them. The Bopers anti-aircraft gun used on our Navy ships in World War Two helped defeat the Japanese in the Pacific.

What drivel! Thank goodness for orrphan's comment, or I would have had to get really upset! These countries have strictly controlled immigration, and don't have a problem with large numbers of people coming in illegally. They do have a problem with terrorism. We all do, but again, read orrphan's view on why we and the UK will be targeted. waltcosmos -- what can I say? The more I read YA responses, the more I worry about the people out their who have their heads in the sand, only surfacing occasionally to read some crackpot conspiracy blog and belch out their "thoughts" on YA.

The problem in the United States is not IMMIGRATION.
I really wish people weren't so ignorant (maybe stupid) when it comes to these four words: "immigrant," "alien," "legal," "illegal."
Immigrants built this country. They made it strong and prosperous. Even the so-called "native Americans" immigrated. They just seem to have arrived first.
Legal immigrants are those who have applied to enter the country and have been accepted. Their intent is to become US citizens. They are hard workers. They are law-abiding. they not only learn our language, but, in many cases, have to learn a new way of writing. They adopt our culture. And they adapt to the way of life in their new homeland.
Illegal immigrants are those who are forced out of their country by war, political unrest, many Irish came here because of the potato famine. They didn't have the time to go through proper channels... perhaps they didn't know them. But, like the legal aliens, they too intended to become citizens. Sometimes ignorance or hardship delayed that. They are hard workers. They are law-abiding. they not only learn our language, but, in many cases, have to learn a new way of writing. They adopt our culture. And they adapt to the way of life in their new homeland. Some of these have been here for a couple of generations. And they are still contributing to the strength and success of their country. These families who have been here for generations contributing to their country, have, by their hard work, earned the respect and even admiration of the other citizens of this country.
Legal aliens are those who have no interest in the US. The US, for them, is a place to work, a place to go to school, a place to get medical treatment, a place to visit. They also abide by our laws. They also learn to speak our language. They also adapt to our culture. The US has no real problem with them either.
Illegal aliens are intentionally breaking our laws. It's intent. They don't need to do it. It's just expedient for them to do so. They know we won't shoot them on sight... for the present. They know how to milk the system. They are criminals. Yet they think they should be granted the rights of citizens. They should not be here.
Yet there a little over 20 million in our country who contend that without them the economy would collapse. These are the ones we're having problems with. Our borders are just lines on a map. Our immigration laws have no teeth. Deportation back to Mexico (where at least 75% come from) is a minor inconvenience... they'll be back. Perhaps if we deport them to Iraq...
Switzerland has a population of about 7.5 million
Austria has a population of about 8 million
Sweden has a population of about 9 million.
We have almost as many illegal aliens as the combined population of those three countries.
If they have the same ratio of illegal aliens as we do, not one of them has more than about 700,000.
Do they allow non-citizens to work, own property, attend school, access to hospital and dental care, anything they can't pay for?
Terrorism is not an immigration problem... directly. However, with stricter control on people who get over our borders, I think it would be less likely that terrorists could get in.
Terrorists want to strike where they'll get the most publicity. In spite of what they would profess, they do have limited resources. So they have to make their attacks where they'll get the most coverage. If they were to attack some small country, the world wouldn't take much notice. But they attacked New York City... one of the largest cities in the country.... might still be first... don't know. But that kind of hit occupies the media for weeks.
How about looking at Russia. A big country. They have some of the strictest laws in the world. They're not involved in Iraq. They were not involved in the Crusades. Heck, they even smuggled equipment and supplies into Iraq in violation of the UN sanctions. Muslims shouldn't have any beef with them... right? Yet they've had terrorist activity. In Russia, when the school was held hostage. Nothing like the carnage in New York... but covered for an inordinately long time. Want to stop terrorism? Stop covering it. Just let the police and military do their job and don't say a word.
I think you're comparing apples and oranges. And I think this is probably a "Political" question rather than "Military."

The statement makers don't see those countries as a threat to their cultural stability, or at least they don't see them as truly representative of the West the way Americans epitomize the culture of progress. They will terrorize (i.e. capture/ransom) any Westerner, but to make an absolute statement against a country that is a threat to their isolationist ideals, you have to go with the US or the UK. I don't think immigration is the heart of the problem, at all.
Having realtively opn borders makes us rich in many ways, but susceptible to all kinds of things....great people, fringe groups and unfortunately: extremists.

Because in Switzerland everyone is treated fairly. Housing is affordable. Banks are regulated (4% interest on loans). Public transport is great and cheap. Jobs are well paid (minimum 30 CHF per hour = 40 USD) Education is good. No war for over 500 years. Hey, make an intelligent choice and come here !
YOU ARE MOST WELCOME !

Both countries are known to have better forms of government than the U.S. and England. Not sure if that has much to do with it, but the government is fairer than ours.
