How would you ask some one, if he/she can dispense a book for a week?

Sorry, my first language is not english, and want to ask someone if he can dispense a book for week so i read it, or is there anyway to say that in english, (I want a polite sentence since i dont know him very well).

Would you mind lending me your book for a week?

Or if you think he might not want to lend it, you may be better asking less directly:

Do you know where I could get a copy of that book to read?
