I am certain you need to complete few courses in a school.
You need to fully understand:
1) Radar , and how to use it.
2) FAA rules and regulations.
3) Some knowledge of Air Crafts Avionics systems.
4) To be able to handle Emergencies, and keep focused.

3 options.

Enlist in the military, do your tour and apply to the FAA. I'm not military, if that is your pick, talk to a recruiter. All branches have ATC.

Apply off the street. You need 3 years of college or work experience. Then you can go to jobs.faa.gov/asap for more info and to complete an application. Gonna level with you. Toughest road to travel out of the three especially with no aviation experience.

Lastly. There are Collegiate Training Initiative schools (CTI). Normal colleges and universities that you go to and major in ATC just like English or math. Graduate and you're put on a direct hire list. www.atccti.com lists the CTI schools and gives great info on the whole thing.

regardless of the decision. best of luck.
