We know that US and Russia produced the best jets all the time, the F-22 Raptor & Sukhoi 30. Although these jets are very powerful, but without the pilot it can do nothing. So which country do you think has the best pilot all the time?

To Melvin B : A test dogfight has been done on F-15 with Sukhoi 30 before and the F-15 lost totally.

Melvin: I wouldn't use the E model F-15 to begin with. That is the Strike Eagle variant and is designed as an all-purpose air superiority/ground attack aircraft as opposed to a strictly air to air fighter. Too much external drag to really yank and bank with the best of them.

Russia doesn't focus an extensive emphasis on training or individual tactics to be a viable threat 1 v 1 today using front-line fighters. Russia is still focused on old-school mentality for ACM (Air Combat Maneuvers) that derives from Soviet-era doctrine. The pilot is discouraged from using personal initiative and out-of-the-box thinking. That kind of thing works ok most of the time, but winds up getting you killed in the long run

This really depends on the individual pilots. If both modes of training were perfected by one pilot from each side it would depend somewhat of the pilot's instincts and mental abilities. The U.S. pilot is generally taught a more vague and given free reign to decide how to conduct his attack. The Russian pilot is based more on strategic and logical commands given to him by a commander. If the commander does not give permission to do something the pilot does not do it. Either side has good points and bad points.

The U.S. pilot:

The good:

On the plus side, the pilot can make decisions based on conditions that are in front of him that possibly a commander cannot see. The ability to work on the spot, if the pilot is a quick thinker, could provide a better route.

The bad:

On the down side, depending on your own conscience could be the difference between would have lived and just got blown out of the sky. Many times a commander can locate enemy aircraft much earlier than a pilot can with his radar. The dependance on your own intellect could end up getting you ambushed which most likely would not end well for the pilot.

The Russian pilot:

The good:

On the plus side, the Russian pilot will have the edge on the American pilot as to their location and has a better chance to launch a well-planned attack. This however required a well-oriented pilot because the commander in his ear will tell him what direction he needs to go and how far the enemy is from him. As long as he's good at following directions and has good reaction time, he would have the advantage over the U.S. pilot.

The bad:

On the down side, depending so much on a commander could end up getting you killed in a situation where the commander may not be aware of certain conditions. Perhaps the U.S. pilot is flying a plane that's under the radar. If the pilot solely relies on his commander and doesn't use his own common sense in situations like these the Russian pilot could find his remains spread out over the terrain below him.

The best pilot would have a good understanding and balance between both of these concepts. However, with the good prior knowledge between these two, in a pinch, I'd say the Russian pilot has the best advantage. However, having an advantage doesn't necessarily mean the pilot will be successful. Once again, it really depends on the ability of the individual pilot.

The U.S. Pilot does not need to use the F-22 Raptor against the Sukhoi 30. An American pilot flying a simple F-15E could outperform a Russian Sukhoi 30.

The truth is American pilots are probably the best in the world with only the Israelis historically having better kill ratios. US pilots have shown their superiority to Russian Mig pilots in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars where so-called Russia advisors would get into dog fights and lose to US pilots very often.

Good Luck!!!

Russian military doctrine is based on mostly on battle drills and discourages independent thinking.

American doctrine encourages initiative.

In a dogfight, following a drill vs being able to make your own decesions makes a big difference.

Historically, US pilots have out preformed Soviet battle drills. As already mentioned, Korea and Vietnam, and there were Russian pilots involved in both of those wars too.

how many times have you heard about friendly fires involving Russian Air Force , now should we look at the records of the US Air Force . You don't really need a rocket scientist to figure this out , surely.
