A friend of mine who is, to say the least, a bit on the chubby side came to visit me the other day. While he was here had asked to use the bathroom and, whilst he was in there, he broke my toilet seat. I told him that as he'd damaged it he'd have to pay for it, which he didn't agree to. We had a heated arguement and he left. This has left me now where I have no toilet seat and no means to pay for one in the near future. I am unsure of my position and would be grateful if someone could tell me how I stand.

Are you sure the toilet seat was in good condition, before he sat down? Did he sit down?
I'm sorry - I would just have bought a new one. YOu've embarrassed your friend, and broken a good friendship - for what? A toilet seat?

Your The One Who Invited Him Over And Gave Him Food To Eat, The Least He Could Do Is Put Something Towards It, Or Better, Pay Completely For It.
Yet Again, It's Not Exactly His Fualt He Broke It, At Least He Didn't Rip It Off And Start Smashing Walls With It.
It Is A Split Arguement But I Think He Should At Least Put Some Money Towards Getting A New One.

Toilet seat can't break just by sitting on that simply while using. It would have already deteriorated by 99 % amount earlier & by chance while he used it once & it broke down. You must have examined it & shown to an expert who fixes the same whether the breakage is deliberate or natural. I think that ACCIDENTALLY broke by his use though it was just at the threshold of getting broken. Everything has its life & braeks after its expiry. No just court will rule in your favour. You can borrow money to fix a new one till you're able to pay back. Friendship requires some sacrifices too & is not so volatile that it breaks like this on small lifeless things like toilet seat.

One word. Two syllables. TIGHTWAD !!
I'm 112kg, and have never broken a toilet seat in my life. I think perhaps you had a cheap seat in the first place.

If you're that broke that you can't buy a new one, take some basic tools to a local park and remove one from the public toilets there.

Just be careful while you're bending over in there removing the seat though, or you may meet up with a George Michael type of guy, who may want to change your current status as "tightarse of the year" in some unspeakable way or another.

Honestly, your toilet seat was prolly almost broke anyway, weight wouldn't affect it . You brake a toilet seat by sitting on it at an angle, and once wouldn't do it.

So your in wrong here, your seat was going to break in the next few days, it just happened to him, not you.

That's not a funny joke.....I still don't get it.

A toilet seat will cost $3.99 check Family Dollar, Dollar Stores, Walmart, Target, Kmart.

As for your friend I am sure he didn't mean to do it if you want to keep him as your friend apologize and see if he will meet you half way with replacing it. First my the toilet seat you can afford.

If he is your friend you can't make him pay for it. Could you claim on your insurance?

If it is only the plastic seat, you can get one of those for a few pounds. If it is the whole toilet, that is worth claiming for.

Embarass him with his friends by telling them what he has done and the fact he won't pay up. But your friendship will suffer because of it. Maybe you won't mind as he doesn't sound that much of a friend anyway!

Now, that I must confess is an awkward situation ! I assume a bowl remained in one piece...If your friend has enough of money he should pay for the damage, but if he insists he won't pay don't push it, it's not worth it...and when you manage to buy a new one, you should try for a wooden one - they're usually more resistant !

How good a friend is he?
If he has been a good friend, is it worth falling out over a toilet seat??
You can buy them for between £7.99 and £9.99.
