I am neither Pro-Life or Pro-Choice, I guess.
I don't think abortion should be used for birth control or simply as a way to get rid of the baby, but I dont think it should be outlawed completley- such as in cases where the mother's life is seriously threatened. In that case I believe the mother should have a choice.
(This is the simplified version of what I think. You get the idea, though)
So what am I??? Because I agree with bits and pieces of both sides...

Last Ent Wife, you are right, i dont like judging others. Thats God's job, not mine.
But my opinion comes from a variety of personal experiences with others, not from fear.
So many grey issues arise from this:
1) If you consiter the fetus as a person, are you placing the fetus's life over the mother's?
2) If the mother's death could have been prevented by abortion, and she dies along with the baby, is that 2 murders?
3) What defines 'abortion'? Is a pregnant woman recieving chemo, which often kills the fetus, murder?
Its quite a messy issue actually....

and obviously in a world with billions of people many different, and unique, circumstances will occur. This involves social, econimical, and as i said, medical cases.
Of course, if I listed what I though about all of them this question would get ridiculously long....

Pro-medical option abortion.
EDIT: Technically it still falls under the pro-choice heading because Choice... means it is an option. (medical or otherwise...still an option) Many pro-choice people still put limits on what they think should be allowed. Most of them agree it should not be used as a typical form of birth control.

It's sounds like you are a sensible and open-minded person. Personally, I am pro-choice. I don't believe in abortion being used as a form of 'birth control', but I do believe the decision should be up to the woman. I have 2 wonderful children (20 & 16) and a wonderful granddaughter (17 mo.), I love all very much. However, if I were to get pregnant at my age (and with the way my health is), I would abort.

The 'women use abortion as a form of birth control' is a lie spread by the anti choice brigade. Here in Britain there are certain circumstances where it is permitted (severe disability, the pregnancy causes severe health problems to the woman, it causes social or mental hardship).
There is no black and white I guess and I appreciate the decision can be difficult for some women. But we must not criticise those who do terminate.

That would be mostly pro-choice.
The only people I know who think girls will use abortions as a sort of revolving door anticonception are hardline pro-lifers. Everyone who's actually been through an abortion knows it is a gut-wrenching decision both before and afterwards. I don't know of women who make this decision lightly or callously.
I don't agree with only "medical emergency only" myself as there are plenty of other social/economic factors which might make having a baby a non-option. But hey, to each his opinion.

you are, what I would called a "common sense".
I agree, that abortion is not he correct instrument for birth control. Education and a simple condom is birth control.
However, there are cases, where even using the safest like a condom, can fail and cause pregnancy.
And then, there are cases, where a baby would be a total disaster for a young woman or couple, without money to be able to take care good enough for that baby.
In the worst case, you have 3 lives destroyed. Moms, dads and the childs life. Thats just one example. Many scenarios exists, where an abortion is common sense, and the logical step to do. Life is not just white and black, there are many many greys in between, so its not as easy to say, abortion is murder. thats for short minded people.

You sound like the kind of person who thinks rationally enough to understand that abortion is NOT used as a form of birth control - women only get an abortion if they absolutely must. I have a colleague who teaches at the medical school here at VCU, whose wife is a former abortionist, and I made sure to get well informed on the subject before forming an opinion.
It isn't a comfortable procedure. It's not like you walk in, get a vacuum up your uterus, then leave. It's very painfull- physically and emotionally, and all women who make the decision to get an abortion have thought about it thoroughly - trust me.
Anyone who thinks that women just have sex with whoever, whenever because they know they can get an abortion, is severely disillusioned.
I personally am pro-choice. If a woman wants an abortion, keeping in mind that no matter the circumstance, she would only get one if she absolutely had no other choice, then she should be able to. It's her right as a mother to decide whether or not she wants to bring a child into the world.

IF women used abortion as birth control, and they do NOT, then we need to be seriously looking at available birth control.
Which is the issue. Birth control, thanks to zealots, is unavailable to portions of the population that may need it the most.
Potential life does exist, no one argues that. Making a woman carry an unwanted pregnancy to term and then having to face parenthood or adoption is very cruel to the EXISTING life of the mother which in turn threatens the quality of life of the child.
It is a personal, medical, AGONIZING decision and people need to mind their own business about the matter.
Peace.

Technically your pro-choice, as you are giving the mother the right to choose whether or not to risk her life. Who is to judge whether the fetus or the mother's life should take priority. However, that is simplistic, in the majority of cases you are pro-life, with exceptions in extreme circumstances.
