yes this time of year is for giving not receiving,i give to a family that has nothing and yet dont ask for anything. some one who never will know where the gifts come from. even when i dont have enough to give. this year i am doing a home made christmas, and have made childrens clothing for those i am helping.i find that when i give to the places for charities , they charge for those items, even though it is at a cheaper price. some people still cant buy them, so they still go with out.i love to do the giving as a suprise to the whole family, christmas eve i wrap all things to be giving and place them out side the door. with a letter from santa .

I grew up poor; shoes that were too worn to wear this month became my best shoes a few months later. Consequently, I can't throw anything away that still has value - that drives my wife nuts! We make many trips to the Salvation Army to donate clothes and linens. Toys generally find there way to the neighborhood kids (I still buy toys).

I never buy gifts at the Salvation Army. I can afford to shop anywhere now, whereas there are a lot of folks who need to find things at the Thrift Shops - I don't want to deprive them.

As for spreading Goodwill, we always adopt a family at Christmas.

Yes, twice a year I clean out my closets and give the old clothes to Goodwill or the Sally Ann. Sometimes I will even go antique hunting at Goodwill. People often don't know the value of what they throw out.

Yes, I donate all of my previously loved clothing to charities like St. Vincent De Paul, or Save the Children or Salvation Army so that they can be loved again. I also recycle household items, that can be sold in their shops. I believe that we should all do that in the spirit of Christmas year round.

I do buy presents and cards from charity shops (particularly Scope which looks after disabled and particularly those with cerebral palsy). I also give stuff to Scope.

I can also recommend Freecycle as a means of re-cycling what would otherwise go to landfill, such as old televisions and lawnmowers. Just google freecycle and the name of your town to be put in touch with your local group.

Best wishes

We donate frequently to Catholic Charities throughout the year. We also donate to the Salvation Army, and any special causes that might come up. I recently discovered a Yahoo site called Freecycle. These groups are available ALL OVER and I'm sure there's one in your area. Members request items or offer free items and there are no 'chain of command' to dictate what you can request or offer. The only rule is, that it must be FREE. In my local group, I've given away many things and received a few myself. In just the last 2 months, I've seen two older mobile homes offered for free. The taker of course is responsible for picking it up. I've also seen cars, one boat, air conditioners etc...... offered for free. To find your local freecycle group go to freecycle@yahoo.com

I cleaned out a bunch of clothes I do not wear any more bagged them to sent to Sally Anne, I always buy a teddy bear at the liquor store every Christmas for about 20 years now the twin bear goes to a child somewhere. I tend to do what I can all through the year, spread it out and on a one on one basis if I can.

Oh yes, we will pass on appropriate for the season things, and, we actually do this all year long, with everyday items and toys, clothers, etc..

We just add a little Xmas, Channukah or Kwanza cheer 'round this season.
