- Minimum beliefs: Belief in Qur'an and sunnah.
- What deem a muslim to be a non-muslim:
http://www.islambasics.com/view.php?bkID=64&chapter=1
- Sunnah islam.
EDIT: According to the majority of scholars (3 madhabs out of 4) leaving prayers out of laziness doesn't make one non-Muslim. (but it is a very major sin)

What are the minimum beliefs that makes a person muslim??? (according to your beliefs)
Taking the Shadah and believing in all the Prophets, Jinn, and Angels. Following the Qur'an and strong Hadiths. Dressing appropriatly for both men and women. For women I mean covering everything on her body including her face and hands as defined in the strong Hadiths.
And what sins deem a muslim to be a non-muslim (that is, an apostate)? (also according to what you believe)
Worshiping other Gods beside ALLAH(Subhanna wa ta'ala). Not praying 5 times a day. Not giving Zakat. Criticizing other Muslims or the Prophets(PBUT*). Being divided into sects like Sunni, Shia, Sufi, etc. which is stricly frowned upon by ALLAH(Subhanna wa ta'ala) and the Prophet(PBUH*).
and tell me which system of belief/school of jurisprudence/"sect of Islam" your beliefs originate from....???
No school of jurisprudence or sect. I just don't believe in either of the two sects because there were no Sunni or Shia until after the prophet's(PBUH*) death and the prophet(PBUH*)told the Muslims who was going to rule Arabia before he died so there is no reason to kill each other over this and be like the Christians and Jews. I'm just a Muslim and follow Muhammad(PBUH*).

Wa Alaykum Salaam
1)The thing that is most important in Islam is Tawheed/Belief in the Oneness of Allah S.W.T.
2)Shirk/worshiping something or someone besides or along with Allah.
3)Salafi that means I follow the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and I go by the understanding of the Deen of Islam by the Sahabah/companions of the Messenger of Allah SAW & the by the understanding of the Deen of Islam by the three generations after them (may Allah be pleased with all of them)

Answer1: the minimum i expect from any muslim is at least to believe in Allah that he is one, and the Messenger of Allah, that he is the last of the prophets. also to pray 5 times a day, because the Prophet said that the biggest difference between a muslim and a kaafir is our salah. for women the hijab.
Answer2:sins that take ppl out of Islam, causing them to have to renew their faith by taking shahadah are of the following:
cursing Allah and his prophet, committing shirk, denying Allah or his Messenger or any of the 5 pillars of Islam, denying the holy books, denying the angels, and prophets, and the Last Day. there are more but i forget.
i follow the Qur'an, and the Aunthentic Sunnah of the Prophet peace be upon him.

According to me:
-What are the minimum beliefs that makes a person muslim???
I believe saying Shahada and thanking All'h for everything he gave us and being a good PERSON (what I mean by that, is don't steal, don't hurt others, don't say bad words, and don't commit adultry). I don't care whether someone prays five times or 2, or whether a girl wears Hijab or not.
-And what sins deem a muslim to be a non-muslim (that is, an apostate)?
Claiming there is no G-d, swearing at prophet Muhammed, comminting adultry, and killing another person.
I am Sunni Muslim and I consider myself Hanafi.

why when you ask a question in a polite respectful way do so many idiots feel the need to be so abusive?
sallam in answer to your question, the minimum beliefs would have to be the five pillars of islam. the first being ash hadu al la ilaha illal lah,ash hadu an an Muhammadar rasulul lah.
major sins are associating partners with the one God,zinnah, not giving zakat, and not believing the words of the holy koran. or the messenger of God.
here we are sunni muslims.
hope this covers everything ...peace.

The belief in the oneness of Allah,
In order to have belief in the oneness of Allah,
You need to have knowledge, conviction, sincerity, truthfulness, love, Submission, Acceptance open-mindedly and open-heartedly of the testimony...
A basic requirement of belief in Allah is to make it the basis of our relationships, maintaining a feeling of allegiance and loyalty to those who are faithful and loyal to Allah, and RENOUNCE those who disloyal to HIM..
Belief in the Messengers of Allah and his Angels...
Someone said that sins will not make you a kaffir this is not true.. If a Muslims curses Allah(saw), Prophet Mohammed(saw), or curses Islam.. If you have money and do not pay Zakat.. If you do not observe Ramadan, if you are not praying, if you do not Believe in the Shahada....
People who use blackmagic, if you say something against Islam....there are many things...that can cause you to go away from Allah(swt)
Someone also said not doing the five pillars will not make you a nonmuslim? The first pillar is Shahadah which means that you believe in Allah and he is the ONlY GOD.. If you do not do Shahadah then you are not a Muslim..

Salaam Alaykum,
Thank you for asking brother. I don't get into scholar debates like some. I still have much to learn and have read the Quran
five times and many hadiths. However my Journey to Islam started five years ago and I learn new things everyday. There are jerks here but sometimes a brother or sister will give you a great Islamic link. Thanks for asking !

ASALAAM-U-ALAIKUM,
Well to answer your questions specifically:-
A1. To be a muslim a person should have his beliefs in place pertining to five topics:-
a. One god ALLAH, THE ALMIGHTY
b. PROPHET MUHAMMAD(P.B.U.H) is the PROPHET OF ALLAH.
c. QURAAN is the word of ALLAH and the BOOK revealed on PROPHET MUHAMMAD(P.B.U.H)
d. To believe in the ANGELS OF ALLAH, Other BOOKS REVEALED BY ALLAH ON HIS PROPHETS(P.B.U.H) such as TORAH AND BIBLE, PROPHETS OF ALLAH(P.B.U.T) who came before PROPHET MUHAMMAD(P.B.U.H) and JINNS.
e. That we shall resurrect after death on that final day known as the DAY OF JUDGEMENT inorder to account for our deeds.
A2. Denying ALLAH or HIS PROPHET MUHAMMAD(P.B.U.H), HIS(P.B.U.H) HADITH or anything ALLAH has mentioned in QURAAN if denied will make a muslim as apostate. This is not my personal belief but ALHUMDULILLAH an ISLAMIC LAW.[you can verify with any scholar]
A3. I did'nt understand your last query. When you have mentioned that one should not point towards any sect then what difference does it make which sect the answerer belongs to? I mean by knowing the sect of the answerer, are'nt you going to get biased while reading these answers. Anyways, if you need to know, I am a sunni muslim.
