Well in Christian Theology it's not your body that's burning. You are not merely receiving pain impulses from your nerves. Your very soul is eternally burning. Constant unbearable, uninhibited pain. For all eternity.

It is the soul that is tormented and it is infinitely more sensitive to pain than our body. In hell there are two types of pain - the pain of loss - losing God forever; the pain of sense - fire, intense cold, and a myriad of unbearable situations. Hell beings do indeed suffer worse than any human being could ever imagine.

As per ISLAMIC teachings, a human being on earth, till his last breath on this planet, is under a state of TEST. He might have been the most sinful person throughout his life, but one moment of repentence asking for forgiveness from ALLAH before he closes his eyes and ALLAH forgives all his sins as if they were never committed. ALLAH hates contumacy. Throughout the holy book QURAAN, ALLAH has reminded us of the favours HE has gifted mankind with and warned us against our greatest enemy "SATAN". Inspite of this if a person indulges in his sins and does not repent before ALLAH even at that last moment, then as ALLAH says, HELL is his abode. As far as the suffering goes, since human life on earth is temporary and till death, a person is under test by ALLAH, the suffering is not as severe. In HELL, a person will be residing forever or till the time ALLAH wants him to, there is no respite. For eg:- If his skin burns in fire while he lives here, on earth, his skin burns can be treated, In HELL, every time his skin burns, a new skin will be provided for. In this way the pain and suffering will be perpetual for him. Also a person in hell is absolutely dejected as HELL is a symbol of ALLAH'S rejection of the person.

No one is in hell yet . We all have to be judged first.
EDIT.....When Mary appeared to the children at Fatima in 1916,she gave them a vision of Hell and how it will look after people are judged when Christs comes again. These are the words of the children after seeing hell.
"We saw huge numbers of devils and lost souls in a vast and fiery ocean. The devils resembled black animals.Hideous and unknown, each filling the air with despairing shrieks. The lost souls were in their human bodies and seemed brown in colour - tumbling about constantly in the flames and screaming with terror. All were on fire, within and without their bodies and neither devils nor damned souls seemed able to control their movements. They were tossing about like coals in a fiery furnace with never an instants peace or freedom of pain"
"You have seen hell,"Mary explained"where the souls of sinners go"
Does the questioner still think the pain in hell is minor ?

Hell is a state of mind...have you ever been through deep mental agony in life? That result of some past karma or our ignorance or unability to cope with pain and negativity is or all these together is hell. Those who go through hell are one of us and not different from us.When we bear extreme pain that others arent bearing we go through it even if its severe and unbearable because we have to go through it no matter how much it is.Pain is the same everywhere only its a matter of conditions..those who bear harsh sun are same as those who live in pleasant weather conditions..that the sun is harsh for them is the only reason why they can bear it

Well from the jewish perspective:
Life without G-d is hell. It is a horrible dark place of gnashing teeth and wailing.
Lets put that in a human experience.
Take a human put him in a dark room the size of a gym. Play human screaming and wailing and other dark grusome sounds into that gym.
My guess: It wouldn't take but mere hours for that person to start having signs of metal problems.

That is because, the relevant identity is having sukshma shareer (linga sharira).
Atma = Soul
Atma + Mind & intellect + Chitta = Sukshma sharira
Atma + Mind&Intellect + Chitta + Body = Sthoola sharira
The parameters of sensation of pains and pleasures as applicable to sthoola sharira are not applicable to sukshma sharira.
That is the reason of gravity of sensation of pain.
