Labour have now had 10 years to (as Labour followers would say) put right what the Tories got wrong? Just goes to show what a pile of dribble, lies and nonsense Labour supporters swallow.

For anyone who can remember the 1970s and 80s, this country was known as the sick man of Europe due to union militancy/wild cat strikes/poor industrial out put ect.

When Margaret Thatchers Conservative party was elected a lot of harsh decisions had to be made, when they decided to close many Coal Mines the decision was not taken lightly or that she was against the miners it was simply that she could see the days of coal were over, further more on talking to ex miners today the majority say they are now in agreement with this decision and are pleased that their son do not have to work in the mines.

This approach was used in other out dated industries and the ground rules laid at this time accounts for the prosperity we have enjoyed over the past 15 years, she also gave the people who lived in council houses the right to buy their house at a discounted price (which the labour. party was against but loads of labour councillors bought their houses)

The Labour government on the other hand have taxed us to the hilt with council tax being doubled over the last 10 years they have also swamped us with immigrants/taken away our freedom/destroyed democracy and taken us to war on lies and deceit

Hi,

the answer to your question is a 'probably', i.e. we will blame the government for everything we don't like about the situation at any given time.

The tories were blamed for everything when they were in power, and successive governments are ALWAYS blamed by the populace.

I would imagine that (though no-one can remember the whigs (now liberals/democrats) were last in power it was THEY who got the blame.

And wouldn't they like that now?

It is the right of every citizen to vote for the party of his or her choice and, though it may not be your choice, the majority rules. So (and not with my support) the labour government is wanted by more people than want either of the other two main parties.

Gordon Brown, at some point, will have an election...if you wish to have an alternative to the labour government it will be up to YOU to vote (and support your candidate) and get it changed.

I'm NOT a labour supporter...

Cheers,
BobSpain

A massive problem I think is that the majority of the people who vote are the minority of the population.

I apologize because I can't remember the actual statistics, but the majority of 18 - 30 year olds do not vote, yet the majority of elderly people do.

The problem comes in where the majority of elderly people will refuse to vote anything but labour because a)they have voted for them all their lives and will not change, and b)will never vote tory. They vote this way without paying any attention to policy or the situation this country is in and that is the height of stupidity.

Lets not forget the third of the population (in some parts of the country) that are immigrants, and who vote labour because they will be kept on the gravy train.

You do have to wonder how thick the voting population must be to keep on voting for a party that's come up with more tax rises per year than any other in history.
Gordon Brown knows that voters are thick, that's why he never bothers with the truth and uses detail to hide the facts. "You can't see the wood for the trees" is Labour's standard method of communication...

Yes, the conservatives made some mistakes, but they didn't ruin the FABRIC of the country like Labour have done. But how long can you keep on blaming the failures of government on what happened in the past??? Labour have had ten years to get things in order...how can today's economic problems be the fault of Margaret Thatcher?? She liberated Britain from the problems which still beset continental Europe today (just look at the mess in France and Germany last week)... all Blair and Brown have done is find new problems for us.

True. However the problem started with B'liar and Brown and is continuing. This bunch of failures are no different from the Wilson government that had to go to the IMF to be bailed out and the had one of the IMF agents looking over their shoulders. The one thing that has saved Brown is the fact that we are no longer paying billions to the Yanks for the last war, but just wait he will have wrecked the economy by the next election.

We blame the current Labour government for wrecking the country because they have wrecked the country! No-one has been given a chance to vote for Brown as PM yet because he is a coward who won't call the election which is needed now

Because it is a deliberate policy of theirs to do so in preparation for the new Milton Friedman free market order.

Destroy the social, industrial, ethical infrastructure until chaos takes over and then build the new order on a capitalist "free trade " economy. Rich get richer, poor get poorer.

Check out Chile, Argentina.

they are both to blame. I can remember people saying that they were voting for labour because the tories were too posh. should people like that really be allowed to vote?

Labour have had 10 years to put right what was wrong and what was destroyed by the Tories. Some things have improved but what is needed now is to focus on the future needs for international success and domestic justice:
- Build millions of new homes for under 50,000 pounds and provide 5% interest government loans to all who need them. (the govt. would profit from this one, a house can be built for 20K and the loans would be repaid, unlike that "rock")
- Abolish town planning restrictions where housing will have a minimal enviromnental impact eg. Close to train and bus routes so no new traffic will be produced.
- Build a new high speed rail link from Penzance to Wick via heathrow so the new runway is not needed.
- Run night sleeping trains from all over UK to all over Europe to compete with airlines and reduce CO2 etc.
- By doing this government spending would be saved (as people could buy and pay for their own homes without needing benefit)
- By doing this the environment would be saved (less cars and planes)
By these simple steps UK will be great and no longer "wrecked" the wreckers were the banks greedily over lending and behaving like loan sharks.
A great, free, prosperous nation of fairness and justice.
Not so difficult to achieve after all !
Go for it Gordon !
