Israel returned the Sinai with Egypt in exchange for a peace treaty. Egypt honored the treaty, they got their land back. Ariel Sharon, the Israeli agriculture minister, was one of the primary architects of the Egyptian irrigation systems that allowed for more advanced cultivation to take place in Egypt. Oh, and the President of Egypt got assassinated by his people for doing that.

Israel has ALWAYS had a policy of "you make peace with us, we give you land back." The problem is nobody wants to make peace. Ariel Sharon pulled settlements out of West Bank/Gaza (settlements he helped create) because he was a tactical genius who knew that, even though the settlements would be dismantled, the Palestinians would still incite violence towards Israel. Which they did. His dismantling of the settlements was roughly comparable to Golda Meir allowing Syria and Egypt to attack in 1973 without preempting them: The world needs to know the true intention of those who wish Israel harm. If we want Israel to turn land back to the Ottoman Empire (certainly not to Palestine since Palestine has NEVER been a nation) then the United States needs to give the West coast back to Mexico, England needs to allow Ireland, Scotland, and Wales to be free countries, etc etc.

Interestingly enough, the Palestinians have been in refugee camps for decades... Why haven't other Arab nations allowed them to move in? Oh, that's right, they tried that once before in Jordan and Arafat tried to overthrow the government.

Conquered land is kept only as long as it is worth holding, and in this modern age annihilation the people who live on the conquered land or even ethic cleansing is no longer acceptable. This leaves Israel with the choice of integrating the Palestinians into Israel as they did with the Arabs who remained in Israel after independence or giving back some of the land. I don't think the choice should be forced on them, but I do not think that Israel security should be an important aim of American foreign policy if they continue to dither, causing us no ends of trouble. If God really wants Jews to have the land they don't need American aid and support anyway. They could just have God smite their enemies.

Countries often give back conquered territory that is too much trouble to hold. The US at one time had the Philippines, Haiti, large parts of Mexico, Japan, Italy, and parts of Germany. Right now we would give Iraq to anyone who wants it except terrorists.

No, the US is also giving land back to Mexico that was purchased from Mexico to end a territorial dispute in the mid-1800s. Maybe not intentionally but stupidly letting Mexico just walk in and take it back.

As far as Israel goes, leaders in the UN, Israel and many nations foolishly assume that a couple of small pieces of land is what the Islamists want, then they'll go back to making rugs for a living. NOT!!

It seems unfair, doesn't it?

Israel was forced to give back the Sinai Peninsula in order to appease Egypt.

Israel has been forced to give the Gaza Strip and the West Bank to the nomadic tribe called Palestinians.

Syria is demanding the Golan Heights, which has been more buffer zone than a true part of Israel.

The reason is that Israel was originally chartered in 1948 to have only certain lands. The Arab nations refuse to recognized Israeli Statehood, unless the borders are returned to 1948 status. That is why Israel has been forced to give back the lands they won from wars in 1967, et al.

This is one of the biggest problems I have with religion;

Person J had a God let's call him YHWH, Person M had a God let's call him Allah.

Allah promises a strip of land to M.
YHWH promises that same strip of land to J.

Both of their legal recourse is to say God promised it to them

Jews say The Holy Bible gave Israel to the Jews, the Muslims say the Holy Quran gave Israel to the Muslims.

FYI America has given land back to Mexico, Native Americans, The Japanese, Germany, and is trying it's damndest to give back Aghanistan or Iraq.

Did you thoroughly neglect approximately the two international wars? Land flow is elementary in political negotiations and boarder replace lots. Israel has occupied those lands, an agreed DMZ buffer zone that became given to the administration of the Palestinians, for over forty years, infrequently no longer keeping directly to them for a short volume of time.
