Christians and such please do not thumb down any answerer. They are giving their answer and it is not about whether you agree but they can speak their real mind on this.

There is no historical evidence that isn't a hotly disputed item that suggests that he was a man and that evidence didn't come until 67 years after his death. 1st century Palestine is a very well recorded area in history. There were dozens of historians that kept accurate records of hundreds of so-called "savior gods" that were looming around every corner. Even if there was a person that Jesus Christ was based on, you couldn't go into the temple in Jerusalem during passover, start a riot and not be mentioned one time by a contemporaneous historian.

No. The biblical stories are written in the 3rd person, meaning that no one spoke directly with his person. Another interesting note is that - if he spoke Aramaic why were none of the books written in the language [actually there were a few but all rewritten in Greek which leaves much open for changes]. The reason I mention this is that many of the words in Aramaic are not available in Greek. If he was not educated and his apostles were all uneducated fishermen or the like they would not have been able to read or write. There were also many savior gods available at that time and it wasn't until Bro Paul decided to do the deed that any of this particular persona became a reality. To many questions - very few answers.

The gospels were written at least 35 years after the death of this savior AND in high Greek. The puzzle has no parts. I could go on and on with this topic but I believe I've said enough.

One important note is that all that good news was ABOUT a savior - Not BY a savior.

I'd give it about a 50 - 50 chance that he existed. Outside of the Bible, there is precious little doumentation. The Josphesus line about him is a suspected later addition and the Gnostic Gospels could simply be perpetuating a myth.

I'd say its very unlikely he did much of what is recorded about him.Consider that the NT was written at least 50 years after his death (about three or four generations in those days) in a land with little written facts and records. Even today its hard to be certain if people really did what they say they did. Was Lincoln born in a log cabin? Did Washington really cut down a cherry treee? Did Tyler fight at Tippacanoe? Near us is a church where supposedly parishioner's fillings turned to gold. Did it really happen? Hard to get an exact answer and that's today with newspapers , internet, etc.

I think he could have existed, but the bible does not give an authentic view of the man and other sources do not mention his existence until centuries later. Some passages in the NT contradict ("turn the other cheek" vs. "I am not here to make peace, I come with the sword"), Greco-Roman myths are attached to his messiah-status, and later thinkers (3rd century AD Rome) voted on the notion that he was divine.

Think about all of the propaganda peddled by billions of people in the name of theistic goals...any real part of the historical Jesus (assuming he existed) would be long gone.

some do and some don't....clearly, to have risen from the dead, as the bible states, would be incorrect in an atheistic mindset. There is no historical or scientific evidence of jesus except within the bible and a few mere mentions of the man by religious sources that are either biased or forged.....that being said, the man might have existed or might have not....the point is that atheists believe that if he did he was merely a man like you and I.

I think it is slightly possible that a man named Jesus was a Rabbi back then with a following. I think it is slightly possible that this man was killed by the Romans. Although there is no Roman record of this. Nor is there any other contemporary record of his existence not even Jewish record. I am 99.9999% certain that this man was no living God though. It was fairly common to consider people to be a living God back then. The fact that the story of this Jesus so closely parallels so many older religious myths of the area leads me to believe that he probably was not real.

It depends on the atheist. I'm less sure than some others that there was even an historical Jesus, because of a lack of extra-biblical sources to corroborate that there was.

If there was, I think he may have preached what the Bible records. As for the miracles, they seem pretty unlikely.

I don't believe in god, but I do believe that Jesus walked the earth.

I don't believe that Mary was knocked up by a spirit.

As far as a lot of the miracles, I'm just wondering how prevalent opium was back in those times when those books were being written and what it's influence possibly could have been on the writers of those books.

I am an atheist.

I believe that jesus existed. I believe wholeheartedly that he was a radical thinker who saw flaws in the religious beliefs at the time.

I believe the sermon on the mount probably happened and that he did go into the temple and upturn the tables.

I don't, however, believe in god and i think that religions are dangerous to society.

If there was someone like jesus around today, he would most likely shun the vatican, shun evangelists, shun homophobes and bigots. Shun most of the christian population.

I believe there is a chance that he was a real person, Although it is very hard to tell because there isn't much evidence to indicate he did. If he did exist I do not believe he did anything the bible says.
During that time everyong thought certain people were "Living Gods" I mean the roman empire believed that Ceasar was a God. So it's not unlikely for the Judeo Christians to give Jesus this image.
