in the 1980,s i had top quality insulllation blown into my
townhouse attic. no cost savings, the ac at that time was
one half ton too small, now i have new right sized unit, some
people tell me townhouses are connected by firewalls and
and unless my next door neighbor has insullation blown in at
same time it won,t do any good. i would like some advice,
i would hate to spend the money if insullation would not
do any good. thank you good people.

Maybe I'm missing something or don't understand. The walls between you and your neighbors unit are essentially internal walls. Even if they were constructed out of hollow block with standard wood construction, they're still not exposed to the outside. Any insulation added to these walls would only be insulating you from his condo which will be more or less the same temperature as yours as long as he runs his heat and AC. If sound is an issue, that's a different story but I don't think it will help very much as an insulator. If you have an outside wall like an end unit or want to insulate your front and back walls, those might be the ones to consider but they are most likely already insulated.

My advice is to not do it but I'm certainly not an expert. Anybody else have any input?

you could look up the original blue prints at the city hall, they will say if the walls are insulated or not, and then you'll know what to do

You can not make your neighbor do what they don't want but you certainly can try to talk them to do it. Also consider using energy efficient windows and blinds.
