I just wanted to know if you can become a Probation officer if your major is in Psychology. What else would you need to become a P.O. in CA? Is there any other career in Law Enforcement that you can qualify with a degree in Psychology? Any help please? Thanks.

In Cal, Probation Officers are sworn peace officers, and may or may not carry guns. Law enforcement is pretty open to anyone with a degree. Check out your local agency.

In most cases, you must have at least a four year college degree. Criminal justice, psychology, and sociology are some common majors for probation officers. Some employers require applicants to have an advanced degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, or a related field. As is true for many law enforcement officer jobs, different employers have different requirements. Previous work related experience can certainly you get hired. You could consider trying to become a correctional officer to gain some experience. Do whatever you can to make yourself the best candidate that you can. Don't do anything illegal, maintain a good reputation, keep a good driving record, don't get bad credit, improve all of your communication skills as much as possible, and become as physically fit as you can. Consider county, state, and federal jobs.
