if not... why does the bulk of Christianity seem to hate it, or view it as immoral?

Leviticus says not to drink strong drink. but oen thing to remember

If it's man made, alcohol, it's evil.
If it's made by god, trees, flowers, plants, (to include cannibas), it's good.

So smoke away, god created it for us to enjoy....

There are plenty of passages in the bible relating to alcohol, both for and against. As a former addict of 'pot', your question is very similar to the way I thought when I was smoking that stuff. If you can give it a break for only a short while you'll be amazed just how clear your mind will become. I know it's easier said than done, but I wish you the best in any case.

1Corintians ch.6

12"Everything is permissible for me"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"—but I will not be mastered by anything

19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

To me this is enough to know that God does not approve of it. There are more places in the Bible about that.

edit:
Here's what it says about alcohol
Proverbs 23

20 Do not join those who drink too much wine
or gorge themselves on meat,

21 for drunkards and gluttons become poor,
and drowsiness clothes them in rags.

God loves you no matter what He will not send you to Hell for smoking pot. He does however wish you would stop. He gave that body to you as a gift and smoking pot is abusing it. You will go to Hell if you do not have God living in your heart. I will include you in my prayers. I hope you will pray and I hope I helped you.

Of course not. There is no place called hell.
It is a state of being. But you will get the "consequences" of your actions be sure of that.
Perhaps pot will lead you to heavier drug addiction.
Or maybe you will get arrested and go to jail.
Or maybe you will miss all kinds of opportunity because you were too stoned and lazy.
For every action, there is a reaction.
Hell is a scare tactic. Just don't forget to use your brains when exercising your free-will.

I would hope that most people who do smoke would not care about the dictates of some god. I found that using marijuana is a mind opening experience, not a numbing one. I think this is because some people actually abuse it rather than use it.

Probably not: " Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things." (Gen 9:3).
Besides, you'll probably end up in Hell for some other deed or thought anyway.

If God sent everyone who smoke pot or drank alcohol to Hell...well no one would go to Heaven, would they?
Dont they eat bread and drink wine in Church just about every Sunday?????

I think this also applies to your situation. Do not drink unto drunkenness. High is high whether from drink or any other source. whether you are hell bound or not is not up to me or any one. That is between you and God. God judges mans hearts. Drinking or smoking will not send you to hell this is determined by the condition of your heart.

i certainly doubt it.

EDIT: i think the Christians would say something about 'god honoring mans law' <---some concept making illegal activities, sinful by god.....i know some christians believe in that anyway. so its okay to smoke in holland i guess.
